Dashcam options
Can those of us who have dashcams please share the brand and model?
I'm interested in installing one but it seems the U.S. Market hasn't really caught up with them yet. Thanks in advance! |

I just installed the DR650GW-2CH dash cam kit on my M235i. I will be posting a DIY and results video tomorrow night probably. The product is freaking fantastic.
This is the unit. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |

TONS OF OPTIONS OUT THERE. I had a little cobra dash cam but I didn't like how it needed to be plugged in to power constant.... My current solution is tossing my go pro session on the dash and put it on 120 min loop or max whatever so it constantly re records after all data is filed up. Quality is amazing and its discreet in my opinion.

On the off-chance that you haven't already seen them, Dashcam Talk and Tech Moan are a couple of good resources.
I haven't pulled the trigger yet (it's too wet here to do much to my car), but I'm planning to go with the Street Guardian SG9665GC. It's similar in design to the Auto-VOX that TeNSaikUn posted earlier, but it uses a Sony EXMOR image sensor. Check out the comparison video near the bottom of that Dashcam Talk link. |

here is mine ocn55. Mobius hard wired to mirror. Need to get one with capacitor so you don't have battery problems in the heat.

I have several Mini 0805/0806 installed in my cars. It's tiny (about 1x2") so I usually have it right next to the rear-view mirror. For the M235i I tapped the power source from the mirror itself through a 5V regulator which can be purchased on eBay for a few bucks. You don't actually have to shell out for one of those fancy power taps. You just need a piece of stiffened wire (a piece of 18ga wire flattened then tinned with solder will do). Daytime recording quality is pretty good and night mode is passable.
Looks like this when I'm done: View post on imgur.com |

^ Thanks. Probably, I'll buy this one, though.
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...212359954~geb/ The front piece is pretty big but it seems there are no errors after installing this kit. |

I recently installed a Goluk Dashcam from Amazon. 1080P quality. Looks almost exactly like the BlackVue camera except less expensive. I just ran power down to cigarette lighter power. Doing that temporarily until I find an easy hardwire solution. I'm already using the mirror power for my radar detector.

I just bought and installed the A-118C. Same one as another member here mentioned and Techmoan on Youtube gave a pretty good review on it. There's a few sellers of the A-118C. Just make sure you get the capacitor version and not the battery one. Batteries fail, especially in the heat.
I also bought a Samsung MicroSD card ($10), and an Add a fuse ($6) (to tap one of my fuses). If I had a powered mirror I would have use that; way easier and cleaner. One thing I forgot to get and bought for $8 at harbor freight was some plastic trim removal pieces. I highly recommend these for routing the wire. https://www.amazon.com/Spy-Tec-A118-...keywords=a118c |
