Apple iPhone 6 Snap-in Adapter Coming?
Hi!
Has anyone heard an update on BMW Accessories offering a iPhone 6 Snap-in Adapter? I know the MY15's will need to have the $500 Enhanced Bluetooth Integration Option installed. Is the 5/5s Snap-in Adapter phone connection the same as the 6? Thanks! I'm tired of checking every week. |

The bigger question is when will BMW get Apple's CarPlay in their cars?
https://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/ That's when we'll see true attention to proper interaction by folks who know what they're doing...vs. auto mechanics foisting up misguided products like iDrive at us. I won't steer you away from tucking your iPhone into the center console, but I decided not to and went with an A/C vent mount. http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showp...58&postcount=6 |

One other thing...the BMW iPhone mount doesn't accommodate some cases. So be prepared to have to slip your phone out of its case if you want to use the console mount. That was another deal breaker for me. My vent clip mount has an adjustable jaw on it, so I can widen or narrow it to fit the exact size of my case, without having to take it off. |

I like the idea of a dash mount of some sort but don't want a mount that is attached semi-permanently to the dash or vent. It's just an aesthetics thing for me. I want to be able to remove all unsightly attachments when not in use. For me, using a mount isn't an everyday thing.

I have an iPhone 6 Plus and it fits in exactly 0 places in the car beside the passenger seat and trunk, so a mount would be nice, but it would end up covering or blocking something. Meh...

I can't think of a single reason why it takes BMW so long to release new snap-in adapters. Correct me if I'm wrong but it should be relatively simple to build one for the iPhone 6 considering it uses the same I/O as the iPhone 5/5s. Sure the 6 Plus owners are out of luck since there is simply no room for it in designated area in the center console. If there are 3rd party cases available on launch day, a manufacturer as big as BMW shouldn't take over 6 months to design and produce an adapter for the most popular iPhone in history. Clearly they not investing the $500 us suckers are paying for the package in R&D for creating the other half of the product. Disgraceful to say the least.

Well put!
So the ONLY difference in the 5/5S and 6 adapters is the phone size? And this takes months to design? You'd think at $250+ each costs, it'd be a accessory priority - we all know how much BMW loves to make money from added accessories and packages in their business plan, why the wait on this one? No one wants to design one and beat BMW to the market? I can't imagine this adapter costs more than $20 to manufacture. Think they'll wait for the 6S before offering it? The phone with it's adapter and all doesn't offer all the same options like say the HTC One (M8) that DOES IT ALL including displaying the contact images when called (that's cool)... but no BMW Apps. I really thought BMW and APPLE had a better relationship. I recall last year BMW said no-way to the Apple Drive Platform. Imagine the drama that would ensue if one year they simply scrap iDrive. Thanks for the thoughts everyone, hope the waiting isn't for nothing. |

Yeah, I can see that I'll need a Touch now for iTunes beyond the 20GB HDD, Bluetooth streaming, and BMW Apps/ConnectedDrive. The 6 Plus will be only for phone integration via Bluetooth.
Fortunately I sprung for the Extended USB option with the Tech package; that should mean I can pair more than one BT device with the car. Looks like I'm gonna need it. I'll keep the Touch packed away in the console and the phone in my pocket ... ... wait a minute. I can only feed iMessage texts through a Touch to Idrive; regular text messages will have to be fed from the 6 Plus. Which means both devices will need simultaneous iDrive connection. Not sure if that's possible ... aww hell. I may need to mount the 6 Plus after all ... |

You can make your own iPhone 6 holder like I did with my car, works great and looks good too.

Adapter available!
From local BMW store:
BMW NA has just released Universal Snap-In Adapters for your phones. No longer do you need to remove the phone from the case to connect to the snap-in adapter. Here are a few pics of the iPhone adapter. First is of it connected in the center arm rest of a '15 6 series. Second one is of the stand alone unit. The length of the cable allows it to rest next to the adapter in the storage compartment or lay the phone on the outside. Part number for the Apple adapter is 84 21 2 365 786 MSRP $265 Part number for the Android adapter 84 21 2 365 783 MSRP $200 These are connect models so they are for vehicles with SA 6NF and 6NS specific to NBT vehicles (iDrives with the touch pad on top which are most 2014 and forward vehicles with the BMW Apps option) Any questions, call us and ask for our Genius. He will verify with you your cars compatibility.

Cool!
Thanks for the info! Looks like an iPhone6 cradle to me... and future generations until Apple changes their connection cable again to surge accessory revenue.
Has anyone had experience working with it yet? How is it? Providing us a picture with the phone installed in the armrest would be awesome. My local BMW is checking on it and I'm waiting for a call back. ~MiKe |
