M Performance Exhaust - Happy with it?

I am struggling to decide on whether to include this option..more so noise wise vs money. Just thinking maybe the noise would start to naw on you over time, vs bring you joy lol Or annoy the neighbors!

I am not interested in any other mods ever, or another exhaust, just the M Perf option.

For those with it, are you happy with it? Glad you have it? Any regrets? Thanks!!

No regrets. I love mine. The sound is not so loud that it would annoy anyone, IMO.

Love mine too. Sounds great, not too loud, no drone on trips.

No regrets with mine. Just enough noise for me.

Do you guys with the MPE still have ASD on the car? I want to add the MPE to my car this summer and want to know if I should also look into disabling ASD to be able to hear the actual MPE sound better.

ASD still active with my MPE. Since it's not been disabled, I can't say if you'll hear the MPE any better than you do with it active.

Thanks for the reply - I'm assuming that you're happy with the MPE despite ASD still being active then, which probably means that there's still an appreciable bump regardless of the presence of ASD.

Definitely a bump in exhaust volume and the in-cabin "engine" sound via ASD is definitely present. Some say there's less drone with the ASD set to inactive, but as I said, I can only speculate since my ASD is still active. I don't find that there's a drone, specifically on the highway (I drive roughly 30+ miles each way to work) and don't find it to be an issue.

I love the MPE. I have ASD coded out so no drone. Cheaper than the rest of my M Performance accessories which are only cosmetic, so definitely worth it.

If you have the means, get the AWE exhaust...I just installed mine and it is an absolute beast! Loud when you want it to be, quiet when you need it to be (highway).

I was a few min away from ordering the MPE, but decided that I probably would have been a little underwhelmed after everything I read on here. I could not be happier with what I chose.

Just some food for thought

This is what I am thinking would be the sweet spot..code out the fake noise and then just be left with the MPE.

Have it, love it. Went a step further and disconnected the drivers side flap so I could enjoy the sound even more.

Side note: Only issue with that is in 1993 Honda Civic simulator mode, I mean Eco Pro, the car gets mildly rumbly.

I could be wrong, but I think there's also harness available to remove ASD if you don't want to go the code route. Just can't remember where that thread is (just did a quick search and I couldn't find it)

Is there any documented increase in performance? If not, then you are paying a lot of money for noise.

+1

I wish someone would've advised me to go the AWE route with midpipe. It sounds much more aggressive than MPE

Yeah I wasn't even going to do the exhaust because I was in the minority that liked ASD, but looking back now I wish I had done AWE as soon as I bought the car.

Its more aggressive than MPE, but super refined so its not your standard obnoxious exhaust (i.e. STI's, Evo's...no offense, just not my taste). The midpipe is nice because you get a slight bit of performance out of it, and the exhaust burbles while in sport mode are insane.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I don't really care for the MPE exhaust sound, especially on startup (definitely annoying, sounds like a four cylinder to me). Full throttle it sounds decent or when it snaps during shifts, but that's about it. If I had to do it over again I would pass and save the money. Take my opinion with a grain of salt. I like the sound of V8's. I never find myself wanting to rev this in neutral just to hear it.

This is the 1st BMW that I sprung for MPE on, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat...

I had a chance at the dealer to drive oem vs mpe and the choice was an easy one for me hearing em back to back.

Another vote in favor of the MPE. I ordered mine together with the M Performance rear diffuser and like the look so much better than stock.

I'm with casper83 on preferring the sound of a V8. You're just not going to get that sound with an inline 6. But the MPE does sound more aggressive than the stock exhaust, and sounds especially raucous cruising in town in 2nd gear when lifting off the throttle. It turns heads without being obnoxious.
