230i Battery Replacement
My '18 is about 4.5 years old. Battery seems fine, but I don't want to wait for it to fail before replacing it. How long do these typically last?
I see that Costco has an Interstate Battery for sale for $177.99. It is an AGM battery. Battery is car is marked S:61. Is this the same size as Group size H8, since apparently European sizes are marked differently? It seems to measure the same size as the OEM battery in the car. I feel comfortable in doing the replacement and understand the need for battery registration - I could purchase the "registration service," or perhaps buy the diagnostic tool necessary to do it myself. Does this Interstate battery seem good, and what about suggestions on the best way to do the registration? Information from Costco/Interstate on their battery is as follows: YOUR BATTERY INFORMATION Item Number 1355853 Group Size H8 (49) AGM CCA 900 CA 1000 Voltage 12 RC 160 Ah 95 Length 13 15/16 Width 6 15/16 Height 7 1/2 Weight 59 Termination Code POST TYPE Wet/Dry D Footnotes Valve-regulated AGM battery. Battery is vented outside of vehicle. CCA is an EN (European Norm) rating. Vehicle computer system must be reset. Contact your service specialist. Various group size batteries used in production. Registration & Coding
Yes - the New battery will need a registration process & if the 95ah is different that the original battery it will also need coding.
Well coding in that there is an amp hour range ( I don't remember the ranges but there is like 90-94 ah and then like 95 ah and above or something) . . Many tools out there to accomplish in easy fashion. I use an Autel MX808 scan tool for this purpose. If the battery ah matches the new battery then no coding is required and only the registration. . When I was in the market for a battery, I found I was able to save like $40 by going aftermarket and decided to just stick with OEM. |
