If you dim the gauge (hold the rightmost button or hook up the dimmer line) it looks better for photos, but in person it's spot on, but bright enough to be seen in full sunlight. If you take a picture of the climate control display in the car you will see the same blowout with camera phones or point and shoots. |

I'm about to jump on this. Does anyone know if this is something I can install myself?

Does this just plug into the OBD II port and you hide the wires behind the dash?

P3 VIDI nstallation in 2 series
FYI - This installation in the M235i (or 228i) looks like a real easy snap!
I installed a P3 in our 2011 1 Series M coupe and I'm a fearful clutz when it comes to this sort of thing. The 1M required running a boost line tap through the firewall and a connection with the existing tubing between the diverter valves of the 2 turbos. Hence I had to drop the panels under the steering wheel and puncture through to the engine compartment. I procrastinated for several months, then did it and it worked. For the M235i, it is much simpler. There is no boost line tap through the firewall. It's simply: pull off a bit of the rubber gasket in the door frame; pop the side cover off the dash by the vent assembly; unclip the vent assembly and take off the vent trim and remove the existing vent; replace this with the new vent that has the P3 already installed; plug into the OBD II connection; connect the P3 control box; hide the stuff behind the vent in the dash; check that the VIDI works and finally reassemble the parts in reverse order to the way they were removed. You have the option of purchasing this unit preinstalled in a new vent or purchasing just the electronics and installing them in the existing vent. For ease and simplicity, it's best to go with the already installed option. pete |

Ok, I'm pretty good at removing the trim and dealing with the vents so that should be fine, I just wanted to make sure we didn't need to tap into any engine components. Excellent news.

I love that I can still use the vent. Have you guys tested for the heat, cold, and possible condensation? |

its at #21 at least you'll be #22 unless someone didn't post their number in which case theres more then 22.
Its only been open for 3 days as far as I know so 9 days left should definitely be well over 25 people |
