VRSF HD Intercooler vs VRSF Race Intercooler

I'm looking for a solid FMIC for my m235i. So far, I hear VRSF makes a great product. What are the differences between the race and the HD. Im just curious on what's the best option overall. If you have a better option, please let me know.

90% of people the HD VRSF FMIC does the job. The race version is for a fully modified car 600 plus HP.....

So if I'm planning to go with 600 plus, I should grab the race version. Is there any better options for such high HP?

The HD is too small to support anything beyond daily driving. If you plan on driving the car hard like tracking and/or want to push big numbers, the race is absolutely superior. It also boasts a more dense fin pack.

5" HD - stock and lightly tuned cars (stage 1)

6" competition - Fully bolt on cars running stage 2 tunes (stock turbo)

6" race - upgraded turbo

Is there a downside to using the race intercooler with a stock turbo?

Turbo lag on stock turbo because of bigger FMIC. Again 90% of owners will not need Race version FMIC. 👍🏻

Bigger intercoolers have a higher pressure airdrop.

With everything else equal, you want the smallest intercooler that can do the job

This just isn’t true. VRSF said their race core has .85 psi drop which is as good or better than stock. Wagners material for their Evo/performance cores also advertised ‘less pressure drop than stock’ with an ambiguous scale that measured...aim not sure.

OP the 5” core isn’t enough for aggressively driven stage 2, especially in hot climates. Decide what you want to do with the car, and pick one based on that. The Competition core is bigger and barely anymore expensive than the 5” - it could be a solid option for you.

You missed the first sentence "with everything else equal"

Meaning if Wagner or VRSF designed the same exact intercooler with everything exactly the same but one of them is 2" larger. The larger cooler will have a higher pressure air drop

I mean, it makes sense, but didn’t Wagner say the Evo3 had less pressure drop than the Evo 2.

What pressure drop could mean: the amount of air that flows PAST an intercooler to the other side OR air that passes THOUGH the intercooler to the other side. We don’t know which they are referring to, so it’s hard for me to gauge and research.

With that said, ya, you’re right lol
