The Energy Diagnosis test module in ISTA-D can provide that information.

If you don't have ISTA installed on a laptop, you will need a cable (such as the Rheingold one) and the ISTA software, instructions for install are here: http://blog.uobdii.com/bmw-ista-d-is...ow-to-install/

I am not sure as I have not ever seen what the software might say about a battery that won't last the winter. Does it just return voltage or is there some real load test the computer reads?

But you question is one I am also mulling over with a 2014 M235i as well. Our batteries are 5 years old at this point. They don't last forever. My calculus is if I replace it now, I get another five years. If I wait till it fails, I get the same 5 years but the last ones will probably be with another owner. And depending how it fails, perhaps a headache as well.

For now I am waiting for the Northeast chill to arrive and see if it strains on start.

Your battery is 5 years old. Good time to replace it instead of waiting for it to fail.

I have come to that conclusion too. What are the options? Where is the best place to get one? I have Carly which can code the install.

Go get it tested. When I got rid of 2006 325 the battery was 6.5 years old and load tested strong. Just changed my daughters out @ 6 years +. Wife's lasted 5 years. The key iIMO is periodic charging and testing.
