I'm having this recent, strange issue occurring where I am slowing down to take a right hand turn and as I brake and turn the wheel, the steering wheel locks up momentarily. I doesn't happen every time but at least once a day this week and is scary as hell. I plan to bring it into service but was curious if anyone had any ideas if this is something you have seen before.

2016 M235i xDrive
16,000 miles
Next service in 9,000 miles
Stock suspension, wheels, and tires

Perf mods:

• BM3 - stage 1
• xHP Stage 2 (could be suspect?)
• VRSF CP

The mods have all been in for at least a month so it's odd that it just started.
Any help would be appreciated.

I ended up bringing my car to the dealership and they confirmed the steering rack is the problem and replacing. Pretty sad this went after 16K miles.

Probably a known problem. You're most lucky that they didn't bitch because you were modded.

Yeah, the more I search in steering rack, the more this seems to be a common problem across Bmws.

I took all mods out before bringing it in just to be safe. I'm sure they could tell if they dug deep enough. Always a risk I suppose.

does it matter if it's X-drive or rear wheel drive ? it'll lock up on both ?
