I just posted this on the M2 forum but I guess the subject also applies to all 2 series coupes so I might get more responses on this forum. When I get my M2 in a few months time I'm going to have to transport my Boxer to the office every day. Most car seats / covers are for 4 door cars so may be unsuitable. There's the problem of the folding driver's seat, the 40:60 split folding rear passenger seats, whether it's best to fold them and put the mutt on top or leave them unfolded.... I'd be interested to know if anyone has found a solution. I can't find a specific 2 series coupe item. Thanks !

If your dog would fit in the biggest one the lookout seats from snoozer are really nice. My dog loves his and survived a horrific head on collision without a scratch in one.

You need a solution which allows the dog to be restrained, which I do not foresee with the seats folded. With the seats up, you have use of the belts for a dog harness. Image a 40lb dog in a relatively minor 20mph impact being thrown forward with approximately 800 lbs of force. These are quite helpful and could encapsulate the entire folding rear seat, but you might need to cut a slot for the seat belt tang to be placed in the receptacle.

Thank you for the suggestions chaps but my doggy weighs double the limit for the Snoozer seats and, as for the Soggy range, these don't seem to have a piece which protects the back of the front seats or the footwell. And I don't like the idea of having to cut a slot for access to the seatbelt locks - surprising that they haven't thought of this ! I've found a couple of possibilities which look quite good: Life Wit and Travel Inspire, and , after more searching, I've actually found one offered by BMW for the 2 series so I'll check it out as soon as I get the car.

Reading your post I can't help but remembering a show on TV which tested most of the harnesses on the market and almost all failed to restrain the animal. Typically it was the attach points and points where it fastens around the animal.

As was stated, to have several hundred pounds hit you or your seat in an emergency braking situation could prove fatal for you and the dog. I would verify the testing before risking your safety on just any harness for your pooch.

I researched this as well. Basically the more contact points on your dog the better. Mine is only 10lbs so not as big of a concern but he wears one that basically looks like a bra with the main strap covering his sternum. His doctor at Penn told me basically that's a lot harder to break and can take more abuse than something that puts more pressure on ribcage.

In France we don't tend to attach our dogs in cars and I have always suspected what Cumberlandjames says. However those Sleepypod harnesses certainly look professional. I'm going to wait until I get the car then go and see the BMW seat protection first. Thanks !

If you're looking for more than word of mouth, the Center for Pet Safety (http://www.centerforpetsafety.org) does good work testing harnesses and the like. The Wirecutter also has a nice article reviewing harnesses and other gadgets (http://m.thewirecutter.com/reviews/b...traint-harness).

Yes, I happen to be in the market with a new puppy coming for both a car carrier as well as airplane carrier and was impressed with Sleepypod, having reviewed the most current sled tests with the PPRS Handilock in use. I see the harnesses also do well, but with a growing puppy, we'd be changing sizes too often.

I actually lost her last May after twelve years and my current Rottweilers are bigger than she was. The food, OMG, the food....

But to answer your question, I have a harness that buckles in. I don't know how it would hold up in a crash but it's one of the few that comes in the size I need.

If you're wondering.... No, TWO Rottweilers do not fit in the back of an M235.

An outfit generally isn't as agreeable for throughout the day use. Likewise, if your canine has long hair, it may become involved with a bridle. ... Notwithstanding, for mutts that draw hard during strolls, a neckline can build the take huge risk damage. A saddle might be the better choice in those cases.
