Good Track Pads M235i

Hello, I am looking for good track pads, I've done some lapping events in previous cars and some go kart racing.

Should I change both the front and rear? The Car is a 2014 M235i.

Bonus if the pads can be used on the street but they don't hard to change, pins you can simply push out. Thank you.

I'm running Performance Friction 098 pads front and rear. They never fade. They are noisy.

Are they track only pads?

No, I run them daily. They are noisy when lukewarm.

I've used Ferodo DS2500, Ferodo DS1.11, and PFC08 pads. I've ran all of them on the street, even though the 1.11 and 08 are technically track only pads. Put them on in May, take them off in October.

The PFC08 are bulletproof. Break-in is basically taking it on track and beating on them. When new, you might get some pulsing from pad transfer, or old pad residue, but again, the fix is to just stand on them harder. They aren't fade proof, but an easy lap will let them cool enough to be solid again. They are also very durable. I have 15 track days on my current set, all at high brake tracks like Road America, and could easily get another 5 days out of them. If you want a pad to just install and forget, this is it.

The PFC08 aren't my favorite pad though. I found them a bit soft, and the bite and release were vague. It's more of a stomp on it pad, and not a finesse pad. They were loud on the street, but not too bad after warming up and it seemed to get better with age. (Or maybe I just got more used to it.) The PFC08 also has really nasty brake dust that will stick to anything. I have permanent dust embedded in my front wheels from street use. (I don't bother to clean my black matte track wheels.) And although not really measurable, more cold rotor wear and grinding noise at low speeds.

I loved the feel of the Ferodo DS1.11. Very firm, and very easy to control with a very precise control of release, and strong but not aggressive bite. Sadly, they had issues with glazing, and lost performance over the 5 weekends I ran them. I'm not sure if it was due to my bad brake habits, a more finicky break-in, or extended street running. They were definitely loud on street, but the brake dust was manageable and not abrasive, and minimal cold rotor wear for a track pad. The initial bite at street temps was good also. I might try them again some day, or possibly their uber-sticky big brother, the 3.12.

The Ferodo DS2500 were really nice on the street, and quiet, but they just can't handle the weight and heat of our cars on a track with heavy braking zones. They were fine my first ever weekend, but once I started pushing them I ate them up on the second weekend. They worked great on track, but just wore out too quickly.

I'm planning on trying something different this year. Several people I know are running G-LOC pads, and like them, so probably going that way. The G-LOC are also the only track pad that comes in enough different formulations it's worth looking at different pads front and rear, and in fact they recommend different pads for our car. All the others I ran the same pad on both ends. Rears did not wear as much as fronts, but close, so our rear brakes are being used. (And I have an LSD, so not just eLSD wear.)

I'll be curious what other people recommend on this thread.

I found those to be the key pad characteristics when brake-steering (trail-braking) the car to the apex. You need fine control in brake zones where you're pressing-and-releasing as many times as necessary to stay on-line at your desired speed. It also makes it easier at the point of final release to ensure the car is balanced the way you want it.

Do you mean 08?

I have 08s and they don't really fade and last forever but you can add me to the list of not really liking the feel on initial bite. However the longevity means a lot to me so I'll likely just keep dealing with it.

Yup, PF-08 pads.

I've ran the PFC-08 on a few other BMW racecars. They're not my favorite pad in the history of brake pads. Modulating them feels pretty hard, they're much more of an on-off switch. On a typical track F22 you need to trail brake a lot to get the car to rotate well, and the 08s sure don't make that easy.

That's why I like endurance race pads for our big heavy cars -- their modulation properties are pretty good. I liked Pagid RS29s a lot for their modulation, they're pretty popular with F8X owners too. These days I run Race Technologies RE10, which are even better, but generally harder to find and more $$$.
