Winter Tires and Best Shop in the Area

I'm a new owner of a M235i with the Michelin Pilot Super Sports (225/40zR18 front : 245/35zR18 rear)

This will also be my first winter in NoVa.

I plan to put on winter performance tires in the next week or two and looking for a good shop that is trustworthy. Online reviews seem to make every shop seem horrible and risky. Would ordering from tirerack and taking to a BMW Dealer be my best option?

Thanks in advance!

I work out in Reston and have gone to Sunsethills Automotive for work on my honda (still waiting for my M235i). They seem to do good work. They put new tires I bought on tire rack on my car about 9,500 miles ago and I haven't had any issues. Everyone I know that's gone there has been satisfied and their online reviews are good.

I went with g and c tire off Willard road in chantilly. Not a scratch on my rims and they bagged up my summer rims/wheels without even asking. They also love the 235 there :-)
Went thru tire rack direct to them

I simply take my winter tires to the BMW dealer (usually go to BMW of Fairfax) and have them mounted/balanced for $35 each. I did this last year on my 235 and will be doing so again in the next few weeks.

I use the stock wheels so I just go there at the beginning of the winter to get the winters put on and the end of the winter to get the summers back on.

I don't see much of a point of an indy shop for just mounting/balancing tires since I doubt it would be any cheaper if they have the right equipment. I did go try out this shop called RRT once near Dulles and they were even more expensive than the dealer for mounting and balancing each tire.

bg and c charged me 50 bucks total. Tire rack balances them b4 shipping.

I wouldnt like have low profile super sports taken off and put back on over and over...rather keep it simple and have separate tires and wheels.

I actually had a set of wheels on order from the dealer for last winter but they couldn't come through due to backorder so scrapped that plan.

I'm happy with the route I ended up going and no plans to buy a winter set of wheels anymore. I prefer the look of oem wheels (even in the winters since they're usually just brutally cold) so I get to keep the stock look that way. It's definitely nice to be able to order a mounted/balanced set from Tire Rack though!

Going the dealer route for me is pretty painless for the mount and balance. I trust the dealer enough to not screw up the tires or wheels in the process and the price is pretty much the same as any indy shop would charge.

Where did you get your winters from? or did you purchase via the Dealer?

Nope, dealer prices for tires are the worst. I always buy from either Tire Rack or Discount Tire Direct and then take the tires in to the dealer.

Might want to reconsider by next weekend, unless you can avoid driving Friday-Monday. If you can, it's going to be back in the 60s next week.

Yep, same here. Looks like I'll be in no rush either. I usually go in when we start to consistently hit low temperatures in the area or get some real snow in the forecast.
