afe intake opinion...

Hi
Just wondering if anyone's had experience with the AFE Magnum force Cold Air Intake on their m235i?

Like the one attached to this post...

It's come up for sale, but there's not all that many review on it compared to other intakes for the f22 m235i..

Thanks

I’m more partial to CTS. I like open filters for the extra airflow vs closed box.

I dont see how that's a improvement over the stock design. You can probably accomplish more with the M2 lower air box and a decent filter.

I have the AFE with the partially closed top on my F32. BM3 stage 2+ multimap. No issues with mine. In summer I usually blue tap the vents on the top of the box to keep the engine bay air from entering the box.

That decreases airflow but ok.

With my open filter intake and Intercooler, I can get 1-3F from ambient temp (typically within 7F)

Without an inlet, none of these are providing any huge gains anyhow, but the idea that an open element filter heatsoaks has long been disproven

A bit misleading. As long as you're rolling at 30mph and have cleared out the hot engine bay air a bit, yeah, any intake (stock or aftermarket) will get real close to ambient. However, at a stop, IAT will climb quite a bit higher with an open intake compared to a sealed airbox. With an open airbox, you could looking at 140+ degree IATs. So when driving in stop and go traffic, the car can feel more boggy and lethargic.

No it doesn't. I own one - in fact, I've had 5 different intake setups, including Dinan (with and without the M2 lower), BMS, the M2 lower intake with Dryflow filter and my current CTS.
My CTS intake with my current intercooler has the lowest IATs of all, and I live in Florida with 90F+ ambient temps.

You're telling me that your IATs stay with ambient while sitting at a light in stop and go traffic in 90+ degree temps. LOL

Even with the M2 lower airbox, you'll see an increase in IATs of 10+ degrees over the sealed stock airbox when sitting at lights.

An open intake? Freaking hot. I've been modding cars since 1995 and tested all sorts of intakes on my cars both on the dyno and strip. All open and CAI intakes made my cars (1994 Z28, G35, Maxima, WRX) slower in the 1/4 mile, especially in the first 330' ET/MPH. The best performing intakes on these cars was the stock airbox with a slight cut out (similar to the M2 lower airbox).

I've seen 20F above ambient in stop and go traffic. I've had open intakes in all my cars, and they have always performed better.

From my dyno tested long tube intake on my KA24DE Altima, Z3s, to my Injen Intake on my E90, and now on my M235i. I have a lower WGDC, lower IATs, more power and better throttle response than the stock box.
