HELP: Steering rack needs replaced
I recently got "Chassis stabilization: Drive moderately, and Increased steer. effort. Drive moderately" code.. The Dealer says it is my electronic steering rack. I got quoted at 4k for them changing it and "programing" it to the car, and getting an alignment.
The car feels fine driving, in sport mode it did seem like there was nick every now and then.. I have wider front rims. 18x8 I could not delete the codes using a Autel scanner.. Can I code out the steering rack? so I don't have to replace the steering rack? Or if I buy and used rack, how can I "program" it to my car?? The scanner read :ESP control unit. Fault, rotor position sensor (steering angle index). belt jump detected. |

Might be worth your time to take it to a good indie repair place, if you aren't on warranty. Dealerships favor replacing the whole assembly, but that error message would suggest it might be possible to 'un-jump' the belt and get things back to rights for a lot less $$.
