Replacement Rotors
I'm a total noob when it comes to brake replacement/upgrades.
I need to replace the pads and rotors on my M235ix soon. I've decided to go with the EBS Yellowstuff pads. I figured I would just stick with the OEM rotors, however I am having a hard time figuring out exactly which part numbers I should be ordering. Any other suggestions other than the OEM rotors? I mostly do city driving, long trips, and maybe once a week canyon cruise. As I understand I also need to get the brake pad sensors, correct? Any help is appreciated. |

Isn't all of this covered with your maintenance plan or has it expired / or not transferred to you if you bought the car used?
BMW didn't drop brakes as covered until recently.

I'm only at 27k miles. The adviser at the dealership said i'll need new pads in 2-3k miles and that he would bet on needing new rotors at the same time. Looking at it now, I'd be shocked if I need new rotors anytime soon. I have not noticed any vibration either.
I'm being a little crazy since I'm taking the car on a 3k mile road trip to Banff/Jasper in September and I don't want to run into any issues. So far I have a better charge pipe on the way and will be ordering new pads soon, just to be safe. |

here are the specs... you can check what's the thickness of your rotors and see how far away they are... 34116792223 Brake rotor, light blue, ventilated 340X30 min.th. = 28,4 mm 34206797605 Brake rotor, light blue, ventilated 345X24 min.th. = 22,4 mm You will probably need rotors every 2 set of pads.... |

OK. Well unsure of how much you have dug into this but you have a few BMW provided options. Let's assume you want to keep your calipers since they are perfectly fine. You can then either get the standard rotors or for a bit more BMW makes some drilled ones. Don't quote me but I want to say 340MM. Pads you can do whatever you want.
If you want to you can upgrade to I want to say a 370MM rotor with bigger calipers but then you're tossing perfectly good calipers that you have now. Downside here is if you want to use a 17" wheel for either road conditions by you or winter it becomes much more challenging. Then you can also go aftermarket - I have done no research there sorry. If I were you and actually needed rotors (whcih I suspect you don't yet as Pikcachu mentioned) I'd get the standard size drilled ones and keep the calipers to keep the costs down. Think the big kit is a bit of overkill TBH.

I bed in the Yellowstuffs as close to the recommended procedure as I could on my previous car and didn't have any issues with squealing. I remember hearing a slight noise every now and then when the windows were rolled down, but nothing ear piercing or attention grabbing.

my yellows never make any noise.
I'm on my 4th set of front and rear. I would highly recommend them for just daily driving. They make the brakes very, very reliable. I would also say get the free BMW ones under warranty for as long as you could.

I also get a wee bit of brake squeal w/ my EBC-Y when I haven't had any load on them, basically cold.. Never hear noise once I've been driving around using them, though..

Oem Pilenga
Pilenga Brake Rotors are OEM and are 40% off the price of the same rotor with a BMW logo.
. 2-Piece rotor and look identical to the BMW rotors. . PartsGeek is a good source for them. FCPEURO is good but rotors are expensive to ship back so getting the lifetime warranty may not work out into much of a savings. . . I am going with PILENGA rotors and Cool Carbon S/T Pads for my DD . |

Also I would think that they'd be kinda expensive to ship back. I wonder if they'd fit in a flat rate box? |

I'll caution everyone to think carefully about the FCP rotors if your interest in in the lifetime warranty. Yes they are covered by the warranty, but as mentioned already, taking advantage of it is problematic due to the cost of returning them. I bought Meyle rotors from FCP for my previous 2011 335i for a very good price. It is impossible to return them to FCP for the price I paid for them. Both USPS and UPS want more than $50 to ship a single rotor. Now the rotors for the M235/240i are a little pricier, so the numbers may make more sense. For me, they'll go to the scrap yard for whatever value I can get out of them based on weight.
