Dinan:

Are these discontinued?

They are no longer on the dinancars website. I am picking up a pair and wanted to know what the status is...

Not discontinued but on temporary hold while some vendor issues are resolved.

Manufacturing defect in some of the bearings. Since we can not tell which will be good or bad on our end we have ceased shipping / removed the product from the website until a resolution can be worked out from the bearing manufacturer.

A solution was deemed found awhile back after a bunch of additional testing. Unfortunately only one machine shop we found could meet our strict tolerances on the revised kit so we are at the mercy of their 4-6 week lead time. Most of the manufacturers are the longer side of things so in theory I would think we are still 3 weeks away from re-release. <fingers crossed>

Just hold on a little longer. Come 2020 buy your own metallic 3D printer and kiss waiting for the machine shop good bye. Sure it will cost a million bucks but you could punch out dozens of samples in a week. Right now you need to wait so you get 2 dozen made when you get your turn then discover set #2 is the best so you then chuck out 20 samples costing you 60k. 3D printer? Punch out 2 samples a day, test, 2 more, test, etc. 3D printing is going to make the aftermarket a lot more interesting in the next 5-10 years.

Dinan has camber plates back up on their website. Hopefully I will hear from them soon on getting the defective plates I purchased replaced.

So what exactly did Dinan do? Just upgraded the spherical bearing?
Can anyone provide a comparison between this and Vorshlag?

Dear Dinan, Are your camber plates fixed and shipping again ? Are the bearing defects resolved ? what was the resolution?

I believe you talked to Dan this afternoon. I think there is only one pending, bryan_f22, that still needs to be addressed. Dan will talk to you tomorrow morning if you happen to be reading.

I'm not even entirely sure what the fix was other than the tolerances were too loose before and now they are significantly lessened. We bought some new heating equipment for the things (to put the bearings in) as well so something relatively significant changed.

I'm sure rwalker will do a comparison once he has had a chance to install the revised plates. Invaluable resource to the camber plate community with how much effort/time he puts into the various systems for evaluation.

No one in engineering today to actually ask so I am not aware if there is some physical difference as to why its not listed (like the M2) or simply them wanting to get a car in here to test fit before its listed as compatible.

We have a 440i coming in after Thanksgiving so we will do an evaluation with that car amongst other products. I would imagine the pertinent suspension components on that vehicle are virtually identical to the M240i much like the 435i was to the M235i.

I did indeed talk with Dan. New plates should be on their way. Thanks for the follow up! I will definitely post an update when I get them installed. Interestingly, one of my plates is much much worse that the other. I'll definitely do one at a time so I can test the difference.

Probably has to do with the tolerances and the worser one being much farther "out of spec".

Interesting. I don't see anything about reusing the damper piston protection boot. For OEM dampers can we keep it when using the Dinan camber plates? Or will it rip? I live in an area where salt is used during winters and don't want to see if the salt will destroy the piston. My understanding was the piston is steel with a chrome coating rather than stainless steel.

Yes, the Dinan plates reuse the stock spring seats and boots.

My new plates should be delivered today. I'll put them on this weekend and report back.

Got my new plates today. It looks like Dinan has redesigned them so each plate can be installed on either side.
