Sigh. Micro scratches on LCI gauges

I just didn't know how soft the anti-reflection coating is…. Used a damp microfiber towel to take off a water spot and ended up with micro scratches. Guess there is nothing to be done now except cry a little inside. I didn't think my first interior scratch would be on the gauge cluster. Thank goodness it is only visible is certain lighting.

Yep. First time I cleaned the interior after about a week of ownership. If anyone finds a solution beyond "replace the gauge cluster" I'm keenly listening.

It's just plastic isn't it? Maybe try polywatch and a polishing cloth?

I don't know. It's stupid easy to scratch. I barely touched it with one of the "fingers" on my my microfiber duster and it left a tiny scratch. When I bring it in for an oil change I'm going to mention it. I have no idea how to clean it.

Polywatch is used to remove scratches from hesalite plastic watch faces, you're essentially buffing out the scratch.

I assume it would work here also.

Don't the LCI gauges have a texture for a satin finish?

If you buff that texture away, a shiny spot on your satin gauges will look much worse than small hairline scratches.

Yes. A satin "anti-glare" finish.

Yeah.

Definitely do not polish this.

There are some really bad micro-fiber clothes sold at big box stores.

The one I was using I think is good quality and not a big box one, but who knows. I'm steering clear of it from now on. Canned air for now.

After reading your first post I just let the dust get so bad I finally had to hit it with keyboard canned air and a Swiffer duster. Not a mark on the screen and dust free. Now I have to make sure I never get a water spot.

OK Now I have a tough spot that will not come off with the Swiffer duster. So I tried to blot it with the wet corner of a paper towel, then blot again with a dry part. It worked. Not a mark on the screen. Hope this helps some one else to remove these marks without damaging the coating on the screen.

No. I stay away from it like it's electricity charged.

I'm toying with trying the microfiber towel that came with my new iMac on a spot or two, but too chicken so far.

Gutted. I’ll just have to endure those scratches then.
