I need to stop procrastinating on this one. Has anyone else here DIYed the install?

Curious if the exhaust needed to be dealt with? Trans? Does the heat shield have enough flex? Any other tips or tricks to avoid unneeded work?

Or... would it be wiser to just wait and see some kind of resolution with these new parts?

I went the DIY route.

I was able to flex the heat shield and remove it entirely and didn't have to touch the exhaust or drive shaft. I replaced the tranny mounts at the same time, which created enough clearance to get the carrier in & out. As long as you're comfortable working blind and have relatively long and nimble fingers, it's not too hard of a job.

My fixed lever should be arriving tomorrow and I'll be swapping out the bad one for the good one in the coming days and will post the outcome along with any headaches that might come up along the way.

Could you take a photo of both levers together? I'd love to see what the differences are.

I also heard I will be receiving a replacement lever soon, and I will do the same.

Correct lever received and installed. Seems much better now. Maybe a touch further forward than I'd like, but it's totally acceptable. No longer stretches the boot and neutral is centered.

Here's a photo of all three levers. Left to right is "OEM", "Incorrect", and "Correct".

Most notable difference is the material of the ball. Aside from that, the shape is extremely similar. Enough so that I was skeptical installing it, but sure enough, the misalignment is fixed.

Kudos to Rogue Engineering for handling the situation.

I'm happy to hear that you guys are getting the revised levers and everything is working out. I originally started the first group buy so that other people would be able to experience the same shifter I made, and so a small company like Rogue could make a niche product like this that otherwise would not make financial sense to produce.

All I get from this is the satisfaction of seeing you guys enjoy the product! Hopefully everyone will back up and running with the revised lever soon.

Scroll back up and look again (I was using URLs that I didn't realize weren't public so I'm glad you mentioned it).

I'll get to give the car a proper drive today and can report back.

And yes, also huge thanks to K8 for having the vision and drive to make this happen!

K8 Thank you for the post. I've driven with the fixed shifter for about 6 weeks now and can't imagine going back. It's great for sporty driving, but honestly the biggest benefit is in city driving where you're in a constant 1-2-3. Honestly worth all the time and issues.

Also kudos to Rayteam Auto in Waltham MA for doing the second stall at discounted labor (they did the first install, worked directly with Rogue to illustrate the angle issue, reinstalled the original while we waited for the new part, and lastly installed the fixed part after it arrived).

Awesome to hear! I'm sure it was super frustrating for you and everyone else the first time around, but it sounds like you're enjoying it now.

Rogue only makes great products and I know it was frustrating for him too. Thanks for being patient.

Same here after bringing it directly to them. Slightly more NVH than I expected based on reviews but on par with other shift kits I've used (JHM). Love it otherwise!

Here are the timeline highlights from my experience

Sep '21 - Order confirmed
Dec '21 - Initial inquiry to Rogue about fitment issues after reading reports on the forums
Mar '22 - Send shifter back to Rogue for them to fix and receive a replacement
Apr '22 - Shifter installed by my mechanic with fitment issues then uninstalled to send back to Rogue for replacement
May '22 - Left the car with Rogue for 2 days and they fix the shifter

It was worth the wait. Good luck out there!

I was out of town for the last week, and seeing the posts here had me hopeful a new lever would be awaiting me when I arrived home. No such luck, just sent an email to rogue to get an estimate hopefully.

Thanks to everyone posting their experiences with the corrected lever - I installed the revised lever on Sunday, and it works perfectly! I have been using the incorrect lever since receiving and installing it in November, so all I had to do was swap the new lever into the carrier. It only took about 30 minutes to get the car up, move the heat shield out of the way, and pop the new lever in. I'm enjoying being able to use my cupholders again!

Looks like they're answering emails a bit more regularly than before. Hopefully things are all good down there.

Shipped back the lever late last week for verification or replacement if necessary.

Glad they were able to fix the issue for you guys.

After I saw your message, I contacted Rogue and got a response. I just sent my lever back for evaluation this afternoon.

Got my new lever in today. Finally centered and feels great. Did anyone that got the bad one installed have any luck sending RE the bill for the reinstall? I was charged $550 TWICE for this debacle.

That reminds me, I've received back the modified lever yesterday. Will wait for a quiet weekend to DIY. I was unsure if the original was correct but the returned one does look different.

I also had my ssk and transmission mounts installed today. Really enjoying how precise and locked in everything feels.

Anyone out there seeing this and on the fence, do it if the opportunity presents itself. Much like with the LSD, the car should come like this from the factory.

Any other upgrades out there others feel make an impact as much as these two?

Clutch stop - easy fix for the ridiculously long clutch throw these cars have.

I also like the CDV valve delete.

I just got my new lever this afternoon. It looks like the new lever has more of a bend as shown in the comparison photo. Unlike Tanuki235's new lever, mine appears to have the same ball material as the old.

Now I need to find a shop that will do the install. Using bimrs.org, several shops said that they only do OEM work and one said that they would charge me 7 hours of labor.
