I don't think he is planning to run with the takeover crowd...
Not repeating my views on my ownership of the 370Z, i'd say he would do better with pretty much anything else.

I actually have thought about it recently. I owned a 96 Maxima 5MT for 6 years and then a 2003 G35 sedan for 6 years. I spent a lot of time modding and working on both cars. I'm pretty clued in on the VQ motors, the mods that work (and don't), as well as the ins and outs of the Nissan/Infiniti FM chassis that underpins the Z and most every Infiniti product.

Though quite dated, I personally think the 370Z is a great auto-x car, offers solid performance, and is fun to drive too. The styling is alright and certainly looks better in person. With the right wheels and body color, it can look pretty aggressive too. There's just something holding me back from going that direction.

Way too much like my M235 which I'm keeping. Pretty sure my M235 with it's current mods would outrun, outgun, and outhandle a PP1 Stang assuming the same tires on both cars.

I'm hoping an S2000 pops up in the surrounding area as I'd like to drive one just to make sure I'm not overlooking it. I know they are torqueless (probably more so than the ND2 Miata I drove), but maybe the S2000 would have the drama I'm looking for when it's under full boil. I've always loved the S2000s and I know for a fact that I can comfortable fit in one.

Quality suspension and 305s at every corner though......... The 255/275 setup isn't anywhere close to enough rubber for that much weight and HP.

I test drove an AP2 years ago, I didn't feel they were any worse on the street than a first gen BRZ.

The problem is price. A clean, low mileage AP2 is basically a $30k and up proposition from what I've seen the last year.

My one experience with a S2000 12 years ago (3 year lease) proved the 'torque issue' was more of one being afraid to let that baby rev, something it loved to do. A base Porsche Boxter was no match !
