I get it, especially regarding the manual transmission requirement.

A friend in North Jersey has been trying for more than two years to buy a GT Porsche with a manual transmission. For him, that option has been non-negotiable. What he really wanted in the way of a model was a GT4, and it became clear over a year ago that he needed to widen his scope. So he went for the GT3. That didn't improve things. Then he said...hey, I'll take a 911...with the options I'd most like to have.

Between the pandemic-related supply issues and boats sinking in the ocean , he was still on the phone to Manhattan Motorcars every other week for months on end. As of yesterday, he and his sales rep at MM (who actually has a real-world, guaranteed(?) allocation for a 911 GTS) are wrestling with Porsche's seemingly antediluvian ordering process.

The process, apparently, is that the dealer enters the buyer's specs, and Porsche comes back with "can do" or "no can do." For those unfamiliar with Porsche's remarkable list of options, in the time we are now living it is seems to be fairly easy to create a build spec that Porsche can't meet. The problem for the dealer and buyer is that they frequently don't know how to modify the desired spec to meet Porsche's current constraints. That's on the dealer's sales people, Porsche NA, and, course, Porsche AG. My friend thinks he's got it figured out and will become the proud owner of a Porsche 911 GTS in the summer of this year.

Meanwhile, he's well into his third year of having torn his hair out trying to buy a very expensive automobile. It bears mentioning that he put down a substantial deposit back in 2019. Of course he did, how else could he have have ensured his place in line!
