It shows when you turn on the instrument cluster.
By default my car used to show a boring red BMW logo.

Putting M badges on your 3 cylinders, ridiculous. How much extra power does it give you? You have like 1/3 of the hp of an M2 lmao

Why so offensive? We're just having fun here. Why do you care how I customize my own car?

Thumbs up

The best change I made so far was to upgrade from ID5 to ID6. One line of coding changed the Idrive interface to a way better, more modern looking system.

I wrote down everything I changed and it was a full page, but my favorites are:
1. ASD OFF!!!!!!!
2. Autofold mirrors (dying to see how long those motors last lol)
3. Deactivate horn while locking with engine running.

Just bought this back in Dec.... first bimmer.... what an amazing machine.
Bonus points for being able to code the options you want. This s*** is incredible.

I bought the veepeak scan tool last night, delivered this afternoon, downloaded the bimmercode app and within 5 minutes from opening the box I had removed ASD. No more drone at low rpms!!! I can finally hear my high-flow Dinan exhaust. They actually do make the exhaust to burble and pop. So cool, now I will try some of everyone's favorites.

First one I'll do on the 2016 M235i 6-spd I just got is to remove the 'suggested gear' and turn it into the active gear.

I did it with my 2016 340i and it worked. This did NOT work...but I'm going to try again...maybe I messed up.

BE WARNED (for now )

Using bimmercode:

Instrument Cluster/expert mode/

FZG_Ausstattung

SPA_enable : nicht aktiv
SPA_ist__gang_enable: aktiv
SPA_Kombiselect_DISABLE: Nicht aktiv

Might someone guide me to turn off the 'I accept responsibility for iDrive' ?

Is that in the FEM? (Using Bimmercode)

That's an improvement I'd find useful.

Don't do this yet! It worked on my 340i, also 2016, but isn't working on the M235i.

Whatever I did I somehow turned off the gear indicator entirely.

(If anyone happens to be in the neighborhood of the FZM module under (Cluster), could you tell me what settings you have for the SPA settings. Thank you so much.

Hate coding when it goes wrong!

Thanks!

I give coding changes to someone else to implement, but now I know it might be something I could have coded.

Among the many reasons my wife's Mazda 3 is a better car than my M240 is that her car has both the active gear and the suggested gear. It also has wheel studs instead of wheel bolts, but that's another subject.

Ha! First thing that annoyed me...my 340i I could get to show gear I was in (along with smaller font suggested gear). Using the same coding didn't work. Anyone here figure it out?

I bought a 'wheel hanger' for 20 bucks. Maybe the best 20 bucks I've spent on this vehicle! So much easier...

Disable the warning that is displayed when the iDrive system is started. Use a backup to revert this coding once it has been applied.

I bought a pair of those for a V70R I had since I figured the eventual buyer would expect the car to appear stock. The pair certainly made it much easier to line-up the bolt holes and keep them lined-up until a couple of bolts were started.

I'd have had studs installed on my BMW even if I hadn't known I'd be tracking the car. I just find phosphate-coated studs plus nuts easier to deal with than I do OEM bolts.

I got this to work in my 2021 M240i and I love it. Followed your directions explicitly and it worked. I already had the suggested gear turned off in iDrive and the only other instrument cluster change that I had made previously was to turn off the model designation in the lower right corner.

My car has navigation and the extended instrument cluster.

Thank you!

I have an M235i not the 240. I've recently learned that the manual N55 has a neutral switch on the trans, not one that picks up the gear directly like the b58.

The gear 'suggestions' I get are based on a calculation of wheel speed and rpms, so I might never be able to get the selected gear showing. Ah well, sort of how it'd always been with my manual cars (but still, BMW, tsk!).
