F23 Road Trip!
We just returned from an epic road trip through the American southwest. 3,869 miles in 8 days. We were in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado. We saw fantastic sites and natural wonders such as Window Rock, the Four Corners, Canyon de Chelly, the Grand Canyon, Zion and Arches National Parks, Moab, Aspen, Vail, and more. Our 228i performed like a champ and returned gas mileage as high as 37 mpg. This was a brilliant road trip. We drove up and down mountains, crossed deserts, and crossed the Great Plains. Never a hiccup from the car, though driving hundreds of miles through the desert with no spare, only the run flats to count on, seemed sketchy at times. But we had no issues. Here's a few pics:

Nice trip!
How busy was it out there, esp. at the parks?

Zion was the most busy. I heard if you want the shuttle tour you have to sign up and wait for an opening. We just did the drive and it wasn't too bad. At Arches we had to schedule a time to do the drive, but we were able to get scheduled within a few hours of arriving. Overall, it wasn't too bad.

Well, you avoided Yellowstone! Good move.
Given the global mayhem in the airlines, driving does seem like the thing to do this summer, despite the relatively high cost of fuel. Just stay in Eco at 55 mph and you should be fine. |

Queue up the Sammy Hagar....I can't drive 55!
I suppose I spent most of the highway miles between 70 & 80mph, still got as much as 37 mpg. Probably averaged closer to 31-32 mpg. Driving is better than flying! |
