Question does instrument cluster need to be virginized if mileage is LESS than car?

hi:

I'm looking to upgrade my basic kombi IC for the more full featured one.

My question here is simple:

If the mileage on the (used) upgrade cluster is lower than the cluster in my car, do I still need to virginize it? I THINK the answer is yes, because the VIN is also stored and it will cause issues - can anyone confirm?

Thanks,

Dave

I think what'll happen is you'll get the "tamper dot" in the LCD. The car's mileage is stored in the key fob and in the lighting control unit (LKM). If there's a mismatch the tamper dot gets illuminated.
