If I had to guess, they got a little overzealous and were a little too broad in banning IP blocks due to the recent spam.

Well the fact that post appears to have been removed, I guess so? Ridiculous if that's the reason. It demonstrates they're not paying attention to what is getting banned. Sigh.

I saw those numerous spam threads and posts.. I'm curious. Why would someone spam this message board? What do they gain out of it? Seems silly and a waste of time. Any thoughts?

I know, I have had the same question. The BIGGER question is why the hell I'm grouped in with them and have a banned IP address. I didn't spam anything!

Regarding the subject, stop sharing your IP with a spammer. The simplest must be to stop using a compromised proxy server (see your network settings).

Inadvertently, perhaps. Or what exactly do you mean?

To save a bit of "traffic", if you meant to ask how to try the suggested solution, the answer is: open your system's Internet settings, proceed to the active connection's properties and make sure the "use proxy server" checkbox(?) is off. Or proceed to your ISP's site to probably find a pictured guide of setting up your system's network usage.

Well I think I was inadvertently grouped together with the actual spammers earlier today as someone suggested. I'm on a VPN now so the proxy settings don't apply.

Make sure no spammer is on the same VPN then which is effectively the same thing.
