Phone mount question

Has anyone found a good way to mount a phone near the compartment by the cigarette lighter?

i removed the coin tray, ran a USB wire through the center console and then wedged my spare phone in there.

I use one of these in the right side cupholder:

I'll snap a pic next time I'm in my car.

I have a similar setup to BentZero, I took an old nexus 4 and used 3M command Strips and it's velcro'd to the lid in the up position. It seems to be ok, just was hoping someone had a better method.

I used the stick-on velcro in my last car and it worked well, but I think I know what you mean, looking for something that looks clean even when the phone is not there?

I find myself using 'portrait' mode for the most part so maybe I will check out these cupholder mounts. It would be awesome to find something that lets you hide the USB cable.

Here is in my car (needed my phone to take the pic).

The cable from my charger is mostly hidden.

I'm with JohnnyCanuck; I recommend that Belkin phone mount very highly. It is rugged, elegant, practical and inconspicuous. And you can get a very short USB cable, which, with the BMW USB/12v adapter, makes the whole setup look almost OEM.

Ram mount X-grip with the cupholder attachment/stand. the holder is very rugged and Ram mounts are modular allowing you to swap out.

Can you rotate it to landscape?

I like this one which uses a modified BMW Cupholder Insert (Part #51169257207) and a 6' apple lightening cable.
This works for my iphone 6s, but I had to cutout a bit of the side of the insert to allow it to work with the case.

Garage List
I have a simple way with a Kenu Airframe | Car Mount for Smartphones. I got it at Amazon for $18.95. It is very secure. I use the BMW flush USB adaptor as well. I got a very short lightning black cable (iPhone) and I can touch it, if needed. Most of my use is through voice control. It's not for everyone but it is simple to put on your vent or remove it. Unobtrusive and use both cup holders if needed. The pic of the vent is not my 2 but it shoes how it sits.

I like the airframe and used it in my E92, but I found it blocks too many controls in the 2 series.

This is what we use in both my BMW cars or rentals. It doesn't block controls in right hand drive it just works 100%.

You need to keep your eyes up not down towards the cup holder.
