people will obviously compare ££ or $$ but the whole point of BMW making separate models is so that it becomes a performance version of that model. A tangible driving difference.
A 3 series coupe just drove like a 3 series.. the 4 doesn't, anyone who has driven both remarks how much more focused and direct it is. So an M235i will be a better handling, more focused, faster version with coupe looks. That to me is worth the additional premium. It is no longer a £2k premium to make the back end look different like the 1 hatch > 1 coupe was. |

And that comment sort of belittles the M3 against that of the M4? Oh, and having driven a 428i M Sport, it didn't set me on fire with its superior credentials...! And the M235i is still actually nearer £4K more, not £2K, than the 1. |

I think Leon was just referring how BMW execs are now claiming they are making there coupe variants slightly sharper and more performance oriented. The current evidence would go back to the current 335i vs. 435i.
I think the new M3 may be very slightly less sharp than the M4, but we don't know. I also think the M235i is supposed to be slightly sharper than the M135i, I don't expect this to be a dramatic difference, but we will have to see. |

As mentioned earlier, having driven a 428i M Sport, it's just a 2 door version of the saloon and in the flesh still isn't differentiated enough from its saloon cousin and with an identical interior - pretty poor really. And that would also seem to be reviewers' opinions in that it's more a grand tourer than a sports car! Hopefully the 2, being smaller and derived from the M135i, will set that right, just like they DID do with the M135i and create another driving machine. take a 1 series hatch back, give it better weight distribution, lower COG, set the dynamics of the car up for a more focused driving experience and it WILL be 'better' in terms of driving dynamics and performance.
As for how much? Agreed it isn't going to be light and day but disputing wether it will be better or not is a bit odd to me? |

I just think people saying "what spec" do I get for £X more are forgetting it isn't a different body shell dropped into the exact same platform like the older hatch>coupe versions. I am interested in the LSD and the BMWP chassis.... hopefully this makes it a real quality handling car |
