2014 TPMS vs 2017 Car
What's the difference between the two sensors? Both are 433mhz according to tirerack, but they are obviously different.
Reason I ask is that I bought some winter rims/tires off of craigslist, after trying them out, they get to 49% on the TPMS reset and then fail. I talked to the seller and he said his car was the pre 2/2014 228i and they have the older TPMS as opposed to my M240i. |

different sensors.
There might be a way to get them to work, but probably easier to just buy new or used ones. Or just ignore the light for 4 months.

Not sure if it's the same issue, but I had a very similar problem. I managed to get mine working with an ecu reset using bimmercode.

They are different manufacturers.
The pre 2/2014 are made by HUF. The post 2/2014 are made by VDO. Yes, both operate at 433MHz. But the coding is different. (Like different languages, German vs. Russian, as an example.) You'll need to swap for the later VDO compatible sensors to work with the TPMS receivers in your 2017. A few aftermarket sensors are universal, but you would need the programming tool to switch them. Probably easier to have them swapped. As the owner of a pre 2/2014 car, it's annoying to have the oddball HUF sensors. But that is mostly what BMW used pre 2014. All TPMS operate at 433MHz (European makes), or 315MHz (most of rest of world). These are 'ISM' frequencies used by a lot of different systems. |
