Low Key Battery Indicator

Getting the low battery nag out of my fobs, car is a 2015. I wonder if they can fix those on the spot at Schomp tomorrow or have to order them. Also wondering how much $ that will set me back for 2 of them.

CR2450 batteries for the remote are about $3 each at Walmart, or $10 for 10 online. If you don't have another reason to go to the dealer, it isn't worth the time or fuel to go there just to replace the remote battery, even if free. The owners manual gives you the 10 second procedure to replace the battery.

How do you know when the key fob battery is running low?

The car won't start unless you hold the key up directly to the steering column in the place marked

Right, that's how you know it got too low. I was wondering if there was some sort of threshold warning before that to remind you to replace the battery or else you'd need to start holding the key up to the steering column. Sounds like the answer is no.

You will get a warning on the dash to replace the fob battery before it gets too low for the remote to function.

I wondered what that little key symbol on the side of the steering column was for? I didn't notice it until I finally let my wife drive the car and sat in the passenger seat!
