Paint peeling off of front bumper?

I washed my car after some heavy salting from the Illinois winter and noticed that my front bumper has paint peeled off in two spots near the bottom front of the bumper. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a possible warranty claim here?

How old is car ?

Did u buy car new ?

Usually peeling paint is a sign of a poor repaint. But w/o a picture it’s hard to tell.

I had this happen with a 1985 Corvette (in Illinois). It was bad paint from the factory as other Corvettes of the same year had similar issues. It was the paint formulation they used on the soft bumpers and it didn't hold up.

I would definitely go to the dealer with it.

BMW outsources the painting of the front and rear bumper covers for new production vehicles. Could be the 3rd party QC slipping or it could have just as easily been resprayed by a previous owner or the dealership if this was a used car. But yes, poor paint prep and/or power washing too close to the paint is usually why this happens. I see people go spray happy with power washers, but they always made me nervous, so I stick with a traditional hose just to be safe.

Occam's Razor answer would be that it was probably repainted (without proper preparation) before you took possession, which can happen to used cars or new cars damaged in transit. Are you still under warranty? Worth a dealer visit.

If they tell you the car was bumped and that’s why the paint cracked, tell them the flex agent was not done properly, probably to short cut on expense, that’s why it peeled.
