Anyone running 225 F and 255 R RWD

How does it change the balance? More understeer? I'm getting a new set of rears and am considering options. Thanks!

I'm running 225/255. Obviously the more contact patch in the rear, compared to the front, the more car will understeer, but I don't notice a difference in daily driving. The increased grip off the line is noticeable though.

Thanks for the info...I had figured that the tendency towards understeer shouldn`t be too noticeable in daily driving. Increase rear end grip will certainly be much appreciated .

What size wheels are you on, if you don't mind

225/40/18 and 255/35/18 rear re71.

They have same diameter and revs per min so these should be matched as a pair.

I'm running 18x8 all around with 225F/255R and they are great, understeer is minimal that I've noticed and straight/corners grip hold well

Hmm so it seems that you can run 225 / 255 on either 18 x 8.5 and 18 x 9.5 OR 18x8 on all 4. From reading, I realize that wheels will stretch one way or another to fit ... but just curious what the IDEAL size wheels would be if you wanted to run 225 / 255. Seems you have less options if you want to go with 18 inch wheels, but with the state of the roads where I live I'd be afraid to run 19s.

I would choose 8-8½ and 9-9½, respectively, going with the wider wheels if they would fit and if street and/or track performance was the application.

I'm on 18x8 225/40 and 245/35 and will bump to 225/255 when new tires are due. I would think 18x8 front 225/40 and 18x8.5 rear 255/35 would be perfect but the 18x8 works just fine.

Just speaking of tire section width and wheel width, without other considerations like aspect ratio, diameter, and offset, front 225 tire on 7.5" to 8" wheel and rear 245 or 255 tire on 9" wheel is great. My opinion after driving my new M240i for a few weeks is that it needs as much tire width on the rear as possible to put down the HP without wheelspin, and my own preference is to minimize the inherent understeer, so I like more rubber on the front. I settled on 245/40/18 tires front and rear. Wheel styles and offsets become a matter of personal taste also, but I think the limit on offset is about 30mm before tire to fender clearance becomes a problem.

Do camber plates rattle and make a bunch of noise? I love the look of some negative camber but read some posts about noise. Any other risks/concerns getting them installed? Thanks for your insight!

No rattles or clunks, but there is more road noise transmitted to the cabin.

I got mine from VMR on a Black Friday sale. That was the deciding factor, because as you said there are way too many choices out there.

Track cars - you can minimize understeer and get more track laps per set of tires using what they call a "square" tire setup. This is simply using identical wheels and tires at all four corners. If this causes offset issues, typically that is solved with spacers at either front or rear to achieve proper offset. With the square setup, you can rotate all four tires around the car, distributing the beating that the left front tire endures to all four wheels.
Another trick is having the tires dismounted from the rims and flipping them so the former inside of the tire is now the outside. Some tire designs will allow this, some won't. Tread design and internal belt design are both considerations before flipping tires.
But by using both tricks, the square tire setup and the flipping, you can greatly extend the useful life of your track tires.
Talk to the folks at Turner racing if you think I'm off base here.
Cheers
Larry
PS - I absolutely love that M140. BMW marketing won't bring those to the US though.
