Just got a set today on my 228i THP to replace the OEM PSSs that were mostly toast after 18K. I have literally only driven the four miles home from the tire place but they feel very different already. Really quite soft. Pressures are 36/40 so hopefully they'll feel better once they're scrubbed in a bit and the wax is worn off.

From what my friends have told me that have had both Pss and 4s, is that they feel identical in the dry. They probably just feel squirmy because of the manufacturing compounds.

Think about it, you just went from little tread block to a ton more. Plus tires take a good 50th miles to heat cycle, break in, and get all the mold release agent out.

I know. I was just surprised as they feel far more different-from-the-old-ones than any new set of tires in my memory. Of course both old and new are the most sporty tires I've ever had on a car. I will report back once they're run in a bit more.

I have new ones on my OEM 19's that came with the car but I only drove from the dealer and installed 17 inch RE-71R.

Last sunday at the track there was a guy with fresh ones on is M2 and the sidewall seemed to hold up much better that the original PSS

Now that I've done about 100 miles, the squirminess is gone. I'm still surprised at how different they feel compared with the worn PSSs. A more compliant ride and less road noise is great, but am I just forgetting that the PSS felt the same when they were new, or are the new ones actually softer? The steering maybe feels a touch less direct, but that could be because I also let my tire guy take out a bit of toe-in (still within spec, according to his fancy Hunter HawkEye laser alignment rig) in the hope of making the outside fronts of this set last a bit longer, pending me hopefully getting Dinan springs in a few weeks. Meh. Whatever. Very happy overall, and without the tools to measure specifics, everything I have to say is subjective. Moving on...

Will be replacing my PSS's with PS4S's on my 624Ms this week. From everything I've heard, they are in between Cup2 and PSS territory in dry conditions, and a step toward the AS3+ grip levels in the wet, from PSSs which are down in that category.

The 255's were backordered and I really wanted to get them on this week so I went back to the 245 factory size on the rear. I'll probably regret it, but that's what the Canadian Tire "Protection Plan" is all about, free replacement set LOL

Thicker and taller tread blocks make for a softer and quieter ride with a bit less steering feel because the blocks create a bit more squirm thus less feel. Worn tires generally have more direct feel but more noise, harsher ride, and more dartiness.

Exactly. The transition was just more dramatic than I expected.

Mart Farah tested them a while back. He didn’t notice much difference, but they are a marginally better tire overall.

It's not just you feeling the difference. I have essentially new PSS on my stock wheels and new PS4S on aftermarket wheels. PS4S is very noticeably quieter and offers a better overall ride quality. No noticeable difference in how they handle otherwise to steering input, but I also haven't had the opportunity to push either to their limits on track, so can't comment too much beyond this.

Got my PS4’s a couple days ago, they certainly look agressive with the outside ribs or grooves a lot wider and deeper. Only have maybe 70 miles on them and can’t tell much of a difference but they certainly feel planted. Fronts are 92Y so a little firmer than the PSS which are 88Y. Hope the fronts hold up better than the PSS. Does seem a little quieter and that’s driving back to back with new PSS as the dealer bought and installed the wrong tires initially.

I'm new to these drive flat tires (which are way expensive) and have read that most owners prefer to spend the money on 4 Michelin PS4s than 2 OEM Pirellis.

I'm looking at getting new tires because the dealer told me that the rears are getting dry rotted since I bought the car used and is really difficult to notice.

Now the question is, are you guys running the same size of tire as the OEM or a little bit wider?

I'm about to pull the trigger on PS4S to replace my 225/45-17 AS3, as I'm moving the car to a warmer climate. Question for those who tried or know...can I get a 235/45-17 in that wheel well, and thoughts on the value of trying for +10mm of treadwidth for DD usage? The tire calculator finds the difference within acceptable range of 1.42%. Complicating factor: M3/M4 LCAs which moved the hub slightly forward in the opening.
