Just came across this, awfully pricey but interesting. Anyone have one?

Who installed it, is it well made, does it work flawless ?
does it utilize the OBD II port? does it save events when the car is off and parked?

My dealer installed it. It is high quality compared to what you have on the market. It has its own application that you can install, it’s called ACE 2.0 . It has both a G-Sensor and a Radar Sensor. You can adjust the sensitivity of these from within the application. It can also record with voice. Camera is always rolling but if one of the sensors detect something it will beep and save it to a separate file called “events”. Usually the events are extract from the full recording and show you a certain amount of footage before and after the trigger. Otherwise you can find the full clips under a different folder. You can also capture a picture or video as you please using the application which are then filed under the name “capture”. The good thing is all of these footage is stored on the device head not your phone, if you like you can save a certain footage from the device to your phone’s library. Footage contains all sorts of information including speed, time, date, location etc. It does not utilize the OBD II Port instead it is connected to the footwell module on the right side of the car. It is constantly connected. Once you stop your car it will announce “recording stopped” audibly and say it has switched to parking mode which means it will only activate if one of the sensors are triggered. Thus it has no effect on the battery. Depending on your sensitivity settings some stuff might trigger it that are not related such as if you go fast over a speed bump or in parking mode the whenever the stupid cat of the old lady climbs on the the cars hood it will detect that and record it...

Having been in a minor accident where the other driver was less than truthful about what happened, I am now interested in getting a dash cam.

Omera60, I take it you are happy with your BMW mode. But I also read that the software for it is not great and that BlackVue models are better.

I have no experience with dash cams. I plan on getting a dealer or someone comparable to install the dash cam. Any recommendations on what brands or models to get, or who to use for the installation?

I'd start at https://www.blackboxmycar.com/ ... great dealer, but also lots of great information on their site. They are also very responsive to email.

If you do a mirror tap you can install yourself in under 5 minutes. It's really not worth paying the dealer, it's super easy.

Mirrortap is one option. I wanted to have parking mode so went with a battery pack option. I put up a post about it here: https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show...4&postcount=11.

It's really easy to run the wire from the trunk to the mirror and keep it all hidden.

Coupe yes, convertible much more of a challenge. Convertible if you need it to work when the car is off and the field of vision works out ok I'd consider mounting on the rear of the iDrive screen then down to the passenger footwell, across through the carpet seam and then finally along the sill to the rear.

A dashcam? Yes and yes. But not the BMW one being discussed in this thread. I have a Blacksys CH100B front+rear hardwired and I'm very happy with it recording 24/7.

Did you wire it to the battery for park mode? (And fuse tap for regular?)

Yes it's hardwired to the front fuse box under the hood for parking mode.

One thing, unless you're really careful, I wouldn't do it the way keylime503 did. I'd use a proper fuse tap (add-a-fuse). It's just easier to work with and ensures a safe installation.

I tried using a fuse tap. They won't fit (at least the ones I bought) under the plastic cover of the fuse box with a gasket. Believe me, it really pained me to hack it like this and not use the fuse tap, but I couldn't get it to close. Here is a picture with the fuse taps I tried to use:

Yes I know this picture has the taps pointing towards the outside of the fuse box where the clips for the lid are. I also tried it the other way (wires going towards each other in the middle of the box) and it still wouldn't close. I just happened to take the picture in this initial orientation.
