Apple CarPlay music collection limit?
I spend a lot of time in my car, so I like being able to carry around my entire music collection.
MY'18 LCI m240i cabrio currently doesn't have Apple CarPlay, so I am using iDrive6 for music which is fed through a 500GB SSD external hard drive connected via USB in the center arm rest. It seems that iDrive6 is limited to 16,000 songs. iDrive seems to index the collection as an SQL Lite database (when it recognizes a new HD), and once the limit is reached, you won't even see the rest of the collection (not by selecting by artist/album/browse folder). It does this non alphabetically but it does do it consistently, as I'm missing the exact same songs on my m240i as on a 430iGC I drove briefly. So my question to folks enjoying Apple CarPlay with big music collections. Are there any music collection limits? The only workaround I can think of for iDrive6 is to spread my music collection over multiple drives, but its far from ideal... |

Interesting question. I don't believe there are any limits although I've never pushed beyond those limits. I personally have about 4K songs on my device but have Apple Music subscription and have access to their entire library and currently have about 5k songs total.
I retrofitted car play to my 18 and also added the $7 WiFi antenna for better wireless stability.
