Wheels for a MR M235i
Hi everyone,
Looking for some wheels for my Melbourne Red M235i. The 18" stock wheels are okay but I think some nice 19" will improve the look of the car a good amount. The car currently has black parts (carbon fiber) including the mirrors, front splitter, exhaust tips, diffuser and the spoiler. (I like red and black). I've narrowed it down to t̶h̶r̶e̶e̶ four aftermarket wheels. All are about the same price. The OZ are a couple of hundred £ more. I'm thinking gloss black wheels would look best, but I can't seem to find the ZP2.1 in black in the UK. Only gloss metal but it looks quite dark anyway so might work. Also, my local BMW dealer has agreed to sell brand new 405M wheels with tyres too for slightly more than the above mentioned aftermarket wheels, but like I said, with tyres. Just looking for some opinions, thoughts, 2 cents etc. Last edited by unrealeck; 04-14-2019 at 05:46 AM.. Reason: Added links to wheels |

I'd go w/ the BBS or the OZ; both are top-shelf manufacturers. I'm surprised that OZ is more expensive for you, here they are about 30% cheaper (seriously considering the Allegerita myself). I've heard the BBS is bulletproof for street use, but a bit heavier. And wondering if you just put those links in for the pics, or are those the ones you are looking to order - I suspect a 35 offset could have clearance issues, but I don't run 19s.

Yes I'm seriously considering the OZ Leggera now. They look great. 35 offset is what that LK Performance website shows being what fits and they seem to be a good site. The links were mostly for the pics, but it is the site I was using to order. However, I messaged a place on eBay that specialises in wheels and tyres and they're selling the OZ Leggera for £1930 which is £100 cheaper than LK Performance's website. Still more expensive than the BBS or ZP. The place on eBay didn't say anything about ET35 fitment on a 2-series being a problem. I'm not clued up on this stuff. This is my first car so I've never dealt with wheel fitment. edit - okay so rimstyle's site is configuring ET40 front and ET45 rear for this car. Not sure who to believe but I guess the higher offset will have better chance of fitting, right? Last edited by unrealeck; 04-14-2019 at 09:46 AM.. |

I was also seriously considering the OZ Leggera HLT, but the more I looked at them on M235's, the more I thought the spokes were too slim/delicate looking compared to styling of the car. I went with BBS CH-R's because I wanted more of an old school look, but I was really torn on those CI-R's. They're both awesome wheels, can't go wrong either way. Depends on personal preference.
I also read a lot of people saying the OZ wheels were not as strong as BBS. I saw more than one post about potholes destroying the OZs. |

I've only considered 18's, but offsets below 40 seem to start to have problems rubbing fenders, IIRC. You could check out the APEX and VMR threads for ideas on what others are running, and Tire Rack is usually reliable for their recc's (probably prohibitive shipping to buy from them, but you can still use their data). Definitely something to get sorted out beforehand - even if vendors have a return policy it is often hard to get them to honor it. And don't put too much stock in those reports of damage - ANY wheel can be destroyed by the right (wrong?) pothole. The super-cheapo gravity-cast cosmetic wheels are often noticeably weaker, but between OZ and BBS it will be a smaller discrepancy. I've run Sparco's (OZ sub-brand) as winter tires for 4 seasons w/o losing a wheel. |

I'm almost set on the OZ Racing Leggera HLT's in gloss black now.
I even bought some 225/35/19 and 255/30/19 tyres today. So, would 8.5 with ET40 offset in the front and 9.5 ET45 in the rear fit for the OZ wheels in 19 inches? |
