Air ride

Is air ride suspension really worth the expense?

Just thinking about it, I live in Tennessee and the roads are terrible so I don’t

Want too stiff of a ride. I am driving a 2018 230i with the m performance

package.

Are you looking to win the local Cholo low-rider contest? If not, my vote is for a "no." Don't ruin your car! The stock suspension on the 2-series M Sport/THP cars is great even for these crappy Midwest roads where I live. Great balance of firm ride w/ compliance for bumps and potholes. Can't imagine wanting anything else for a real daily driver + occasional track car. Just my 2 cents.

Ditch the runflat tires and go with something like Continental Extreme Contact Sport non-runflats. They provide great handling with an improved ride due to less-stiff sidewalls. You can get a BMW kit with compressor and tire sealant as provided with M-cars that will get you to a repair facility, although I've never had to use mine. A tire plugging kit will eliminate the need for the sealant. I've been mounting non-runflats for years on all my cars as soon as the original runflats need replacement. You might also consider different shocks/springs, but that would likely interfere with your warranty.

If you have the 230i M Sport Pkg, you had the option of non RF Michelin PSS. I ordered mine with that in staggered config. and am really happy with the ride/handling.

Echo what others have said - bad roads go with a smaller 17" wheel with a non-run flat tire.

Me no understand. Do you really think that a true air suspension is even possible for this car? And if so, at what price? If you want a good air suspension, go find a nice Citroen DS, still the best!

Ok just asking about the air ride.

Already dumped the run flats for Cooper Zion RS3-G1s what a difference.

Bimmerzine compact spare, no trunk who cares

Just relax guys Just asked a question

Anytime anyone mentions AirRide BMW "purists" loose their crayons over it. Do what you want homie. It would look pretty nice. I have a bunch of my Germany buds have done it on various cars over there. It's a pretty common thing for the enthusiast. I may end up doing it on my F31. Having the adjustability of the height of the car at any given time is always a plus. The comfort of the ride can be as hard or soft as you make it. The struts for the front are 30 way adjustable just like coil overs but ride on air instead of the springs. Be ready for some airline repairs at some point and some basic wiring. If you can change a strut and wire a basic stereo in a car you can install your own bag system.

I'm not sure the cost/benefit is what you are looking for. It's about the same cost as a set of KW Clubsports. But here's the thing, when you install coil overs you have to get the car on the rack to get an alignment. Set the alignment while it's on the rack at ride height, corner balance maybe, and then get the car off the rack. With the bag system you can set your custom ride height as a saved setting, raise the car up to get it on the lift, lower it back to your desired ride height, get the alignment done, raise it back up in seconds to drive off. Then park in a spot, air out dropping it on the ground, and go pay the man. Every mod has a cost. It's up to you to decide what's worth it.
