Real Daily Driver

Ok, so I know it is probably blasphemy to some of you but my 230i xdrive really is my DD.

So it is 4 months old, with 5000 miles on it and I have brought home the following in my car:

1450 pounds of lime for the yard, 300 pound of dirt and 150 pounds of grass seed.

That’s combined with going skiing twice, and whoever said you can not have fun in a Parking lot with this car just because it had xdrive is full of BS.

Lastly she has gone mountain biking twice last week, one with the bike in the car and once on the roof.

Just saying!

On my last M235i no one ever sat in the back seat.

I've taken three people skiing in my car on one trip. Put half the rear seat down, pass skis through. No problem at all!

And yes, the back end is VERY willing to come around in DSC Off mode on snow or wet pavement, and it doesn't take much on dry pavement either. I think people who complain about it have probably never pushed it to see what it's capable of. And yes, it does this on good fresh tires (MPSS's or Alpin's), not some old tires with no tread left.

I've been there with the grass seed (although not 150lbs worth, but...) The quantity of lime is impressive; please tell me that was not all at once! Along these lines, I've fit a gas lawnmower in the trunk (with the handlebar folded of course).

Glad to see someone else out there who realizes that the 2er can be a very practical car!

I'm a blend of you guys...daily driver on good weather days to the office where it is parked at the end of the lot, no one ever in the back since delivery in August 2014, no food, no drinks other than water bottle. Nothing has ever been in the trunk other than the bimmerzone.com spare kit. Doesn't go to malls or shopping areas with tight parking. The 330GT does that!

There is a reason the 4 cylinder engine is the volume seller for BMW. It offers good performance in even their heaviest cars, offers good hard mileage and has a lower price point. Your use of the vehicle is actually what I would say describes the majority of bmw owner’s. They didn’t buy their car to race on a track and race stop light to stop light. They bought it because it does a number of things quite well. Enjoy the hell out of your DD and keep the stories coming.

Similar approach for me. No food,no smoking, etc. Also no parking in tight or hazardous spots. Garaged night and day at home and at work.

No one has been in the back of mine. Very few even in the front. I keep several coats/jackets back there depending on how cold it is combined with how casual I can be.

Smoking!?!?

We don’t even let that happen around the outside of our house.

Same policy at our house. No smoking anywhere on, in or near the property.

Very little tobacco smoking around here, but now ganja is a big business (in the Seattle area.)

If it can fit in the trunk and/or with the seats down and it isn't leaking, oily, or sharp, it's fair game. Drinks are welcome other than milk. Passengers are welcome in all seats and the rear seats are used routinely. Kiddos with dirty soccer and softball cleats sit in the car all the time. The car sees all weather conditions including 100+ sunny days and -5 snowy/salty days.

After 40 months of ownership and 33K miles, the car still doesn't have a scratch or dent on the outside. There is one 1/4 scuff on the passenger seat side bolster. No interior scuffs or scratches. That is it for the damage to the car.

The car gets washed every 1 to 2 weeks and polished/waxed every 6 months. The interior gets wiped down with a wet wash cloth and vacuumed every month or so. I don't use leather conditioners or like. Never have and never had a problem with the treated leather used in late model cars. The car looks and drive like it's brand new.

If I had a some rare 993 Porsche 911, I would do the same. IT'S A CAR. Drive it. Enjoy it.

Couldn't have said it better myself. My kids are grown and no grandchildren yet, so my back seat hasn't seen any action, but I wouldn't hesitate using it if I needed to put someone back there. I load my hockey bag in the trunk and sticks and puck bucket in the front seat area twice a week. I also drop the top and haul my bag of sailing gear in the trunk a couple times a week during the warmer months. The ability to use my M235i vert in that way was a requirement which helped tip the scales in that direction over a Boxster. It's really a great all-around DD.

My 2015 M235 x-drive is a daily driver and used in all conditions (in winter with dedicated snow tires). Looks and drives great from Day 1.

I am aching for a Z4 M40i though... we'll see if and when this will come true...

No blasphemy. It great that you are using your car and enjoying it. No matter what you do with the car or use it for, it can always be cleaned up to look brand new.

Each of us has a tolerance level for what we use our cars for or allow it to be subjected to. Nice to see someone using theirs for a full variety. No judgements here.

Enjoy it

I bought mine to drive and use as a DD. My car is definitely not a garage queen.

My 6 month anniversary is next week and I have now put over 11K on the M235. Friday, I carried a sledge hammer, iron tamper, post hole digger and a wallpaper steamer with the PS seat opened (and my briefcase and lunch). I also busted out of the factory warranty the same day. Now on the CPO warranty plan!

I should add that I bought my M235 knowing I had my trusty 8' bed Tundra to haul everything else though...

I use my 230xi as a daily, no point in having the car if not for enjoying it.

I will not be hauling that much stuff in it though. I did that with my Audi TTS (which I think the 230 would do better than the TTS with honestly) but hauling soil and manure in the TTS bottomed out the suspension very quickly and that with the combo of going over badly maintained train tracks for my commute everyday blew one of my struts. Don't want to ruin the 230's suspension as I'm actually very happy with the setup.

I drive mine daily, but I do have an old POS F150 for hauling the dog and trips to Home Depot, etc and anything that won't fit in the 230.

I was laughing as I read this thread, because I was just about to go on a Home Depot trip. Below is a picture of my full trunk, with 4 40# bags of salt, 40# of charcoal, and a 50qt bag of potting soil. There are some big planters and other stuff in the front seat.

My 235 is my DD for everything. I've hauled 2x4's in it, and a collapsible ladder, and gone camping with it. If it's really too big to fit, I'll have to see if I can borrow my wife's VW Sportwagen. Our neighbors kid us about our small cars. But it's been a long time since I've had a load so big that it wouldn't fit in our cars.
