245/35R18 square setup, 18X8 wheels, no spacers

Yesterday I mounted up my square 245/35R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tire setup on my Alutec Drive 18X8 et43. No spacers. Stock suspension. They fit perfectly on the front axle with no rubbing any other clearance issues with the wheels cranked fully or during hard turns. https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1370118

Awesome! Such a shame that 245/35/18 is not a well-supported size in performance tires. I'm looking at a similar setup this summer (waiting on Apex's forged wheel line) and MPS4S and Cup2's are pretty much it.

There really isn't much to choose from, is there.

I just noticed that in the extreme performance category Bridgestone has apparently replaced their RE71R with the Potenza S007A. The tread compound is quite different, though - that makes me wonder what else is different. The S007A goes for ½ the price of the Cup2s, so that's attractive.

Same here - it's not anything I would choose for the street.

I mentioned it as the subject was 245/35-18 performance tires, and performance-wise the S007A slots-in above the MPSS/MP4S pair and below the Cup2.

Thanks for posting!

Wonder if the 245/35R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S will fit on 18x8 ET 45 will fit, especially in the front. I was planning to go with these tires in a staggered set up with 225s in front and 245s in back. Would prefer the same size all around.

It should work assuming you're running Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. I have about 7mm clearance between the tire edge and strut housing with the 18X8 et 43 wheel. A et 45 would put it 2mm closer to the strut.

Thanks for doing all the research and practical applications. I have a 2019 F23 M240i with the all season square (225/40 RF Pirellis) and I think this is the way I will be going, maybe going to try Falken (Azenis FK510) tires.

Sure thing. Just keep in mind that you'll need to run wheels with these specs and should research to make sure the 245/35R18 Azenis FK510 isn't wider than then the 245/45R18 MP4s as you could run into clearance issues.

I've got 400 miles on the tires now and they are fully broken in. The temps in Kansas City have been in the 60s and 70s so I've felt confident in pushing the car pretty hard over the past few days. They difference in the front grip and the overall confidence at all times through a turn is so much better than the 225s. The tires are not BMW spec like the stock MPSS tires thus the sidewalls are stiffer which makes a difference.

I was worried the extra width would make the feel a little more numb, but I'm not picking that up. Now I need to be careful that the improved front axle grip doesn't make me so confident that I overdrive the rear axle.

I'm on 18x8 ET40 squared so do you think the extra +3 could possibly cause rubbing on the fender up front? I doubt it as it seems it should clear but I want to get another opinion since you're already on 245's.

I would doubt it. If it did, it would have to be at extreme turning angles or suspension compression. I've run my car really hard in the turns now with suspension at compression and I'm not getting any rubbing. At static and the wheels cranked, there's nothing close to contacting the splash guards. The 245/35R18 are fractionally smaller in diameter than the 225/45R18 so that obviously helps some too. If you're lowered or have M3/M4 tension/control arms, all bets are off. I have no idea how those parts that would impact clearance.

I had a question for readers of XutvJet's post. One of the many things I like about my M235i is decent efficiency given its performance.

The diameter of the 245/35-18 is a little smaller than than the stock front tires. See link below for calculations.

Since 245/35-18 is the stock rear tire size, the final effective gear ratio is not changed. It seems like using these on the front for a RWD car should not deteriorate MPG as a result of the slightly smaller diameter. The increased rolling resistance as a result of the increased width might adversely affect MPG.

Thoughts on differences in the differences in size on MPG? When I've gone to 225/40s all around in a square set up, on both on my 135 and my 235, I did not see a discernible difference in MPG though it should be been slightly higher. I do like how a square set up drives compared to the staggered and it allows for more effective tire rotations.

There will also be a bit of an increase in drag due to the wider tires in front. My guess is that the additional drag and the slight increase in rolling resistance will make a negligible difference in your mileage.

Sorry, yes. I'll get a picture posted of the rear. Ordered everything (except center caps and bolts) from Tire Rack on Wednesday, all came in great shape on Saturday.

I feel more confident driving with this setup as opposed to the stock 225/40 all season RFTs. Also nice to be able to just swap out the tires when the seasons change, and to rotate all when necessary. Couple of pics from the rear, not the greatest though...
Really appreciate the time the OP took to figure all this out.
