235 Square Setup
I just bought some rims that are 18x8.5 et35, and I've been seeing a lot of pictures that are running somewhat similar setups. Most are 18x8 et35-40 running 235/40R18. Will 18x8.5 et35 run 235/40R18 just as well? Or will I need some sort of camber mod to avoid rubbing? I have a 2015 228i on stock sport suspension. What do you guys think?
I know that 225/40R18 is the typical tire to buy, but I would like some more meat width and/or height. If I do have to go 225, can I go 225/45R18? I know the roll rate will be a bit different, but I think I rather have the ride comfort. |

The 235/40/18 tire could cause rubbing in the front on an 18x8.5 ET35 wheel under certain conditions like U-Turns or speed bumps. The higher profile 225/45/18 has been done on stock wheels without any issues, but would likely rub on the new 8.5 ET35 specs.

I'm a little worried going the extra 3 mm out that it will cause rubbing with these tire specs, but I'm not big on the stretched tire look of the 225.

I have a m235, so not sure if the suspension/clearance is different but Im running Michellin A/S 3+ 235/40/18 on 18x8.5 et34 with very minor rubbing. I have heard it rub maybe 3 times in the 6 months I ran it. I was originally planning to roll it if it got on my nerves but its pretty infrequent.

235 Square Setup
I have finally set on a set of wheels that took me a while to refinish. I ended up with BBS RX 206, 18x8, et38. I wrapped them in 235/40/18 Michellin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. I get minimum rub, only when I hit and bottom out, it's really not bad. There isn't a need to roll my fenders, I'm happy how they turned out. I know there are a lot of questions about fitment and square setups, I hope this helps.

I'm not really sure why the pictures are flipped. I guess it's cause I took the photos on my phone vertically...just odd. I can't seem to fix the upload, my bad.
