This from a guy living off a government pension.

Understand how government pensions work. Sure he paid into the plan but the taxpayer matched ~9-14%. Far better then any private sector pension plan.

My point is he shits on socialism, but has spent his career working for a 'socialist' institution and now benefits from a government subsidized pension.

I think the phrase is 'don't look a gift horse in the mouth'.

It's probably not always helpful to question an individual's situation. Nobody can really know all the sacrifices another has made in their life. I think of democratic socialism as a way everyone can care for all of their neighbors. It's compassion, caring, love. And in cases like Medicare for All, it's also cheaper than the health care system the USA has now. But a well regulated capitalism can work just as well as a market driven socialism. We just need to thoughtfully weigh the pros and cons of all the choices, find the best middle ground, and not run off to one extreme or its opposite and throw barbs at each other.

Yes I think Canada would suffer badly if the Liberals, NDP and Greens united as they would drag the country so far left that we'd all suffer as it truly would be a socialist failure, as for the time I was on the job and now it is still a capitalist society so your position that I was somehow benefiting from a socialist system is wrong. I am not a socialist and nor is my pension supported by socialism. When I was hired the pay was shit and the pension wouldn't have been that great as it is based on your salary. I had the good fortune that the salaries grew well, but that was just my good luck and not why I choose that career. I contributed into my pension and my contributes were matched as part of my salary so get over yourself as you are deflecting away from my point about socialism and making it about my pension as if that is something I should be ashamed of given my political views. And while I'm on this, I'd challenge you to do my job, to do and see the things I've seen and if you could man up enough then tell me how I was over paid and didn't deserve my pay, benefits and pension.
