I just ordered it, so I haven't contacted my shop yet. I've read in other threads 3-3.5 hours of labor is the norm though.

Local dealer. $2,575 before tax. They were running a parts special, the diff at "dealer cost." So, the part was $2,000 and install is $575, per BMW's website.

My local indie shop quoted me $450 for the install.

The advantage to paying dealer rates is that the part is covered for the life of your car warranty. That to me is worth $125 premium.

Nalley, which was where I bought the car. First impressions are in this thread. I haven't had the time to put many miles on yet. http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1423890

Re: feeling it. It helps to have owned and driven daily RWD cars with LSDs. Especially the E46 M3, which had similar power, weight, size, and the staggered wheel setup as the M240.
Ever since I bought it, the 2 has felt like it has more power than grip and composure. Now it feels like it has all three. For those pursuing tunes and power kits for the 2, I would definitely recommend doing the LSD first. Unless you just want the power to blast ahead in a straight line on a smooth, flat road.

Yes. Feels more stable and predictable. But that makes sense, given how many road imperfections we encounter everywhere.

Different car, I know, but my e90 335i with an open diff felt very nervous compared with my m240i, which has a m-performance LSD. It's much more predictable, especially in wet weather.

Got the Wavetrac LSD with a 3.08 final drive ratio installed. My car has the ZF auto, so the 2.81 final drive ratio was stock. I’ve only put about 60 miles on the car since then with half of it in bad traffic, but thought I’d offer some first impressions.
First off, you can most definitely feel the LSD doing its thing primarily from a stop and of course in and out of turns. With 1/3 and half throttle launches the car stays locked on with no walk that sometimes you can induce with the open diff. Keep in mind this is with the shorter final drive ratio which gets you through the lower gears quicker as well, so that is saying something. As far as turns, it feels like the car rotated quicker on entry especially apparent on tight turns. On one particular long, fast, sweeping turn on my commute home, I pushed it a bit harder than I normally would and the car felt so much more planted allowing to push even harder. I can now understand what people mean when they say the LSD is confidence inspiring. The difference with the 3.08 final drive ratio is definitely noticeable as well. It makes Comfort mode more useable especially in acceleration as the car is quickly hitting the shift points with very little drop in rpm between. When on the throttle in Sport mode, it’s seems to hold the higher rpm vice looking for an up shift. Interestingly, in stop and go traffic (avg speeds 15-20 mph) it appears to be producing better fuel economy as well, which to me is counter-intuitive. Granted it’s only a couple of data points, but that’s what I’ve seen. Despite having these mods on the car just a short time, I’m already convinced it was worth the money. Thanks for the advice guys! Edit: I really need to add that this is one of those transformational mods that makes this car even better. For me up there with the Dinan springs which transformed the car’s handling and ahead of the tune which was a leap in torque and power.

I wish there was a way to confirm that the M Performance LSD offered for the F3X chassis 3/4 N55 series would fit the 2 series. It's a 3.23 vs the M235's 3.08. It would be a hell of a lot cheaper to go that route than having someone build it. I've looked at tons of pictures and they seem to use the same exact pumpkin, axles, and they're the same rear subframes, but ya know, BMW does strange stuff and doesn't parts bin share all the time.

I completely agree. I am really loving the improvement. I feel it every day, even at low speeds through my winding neighborhood. It makes me want to hold onto the car in perpetuity. At the very least, I don't ever want to have another RWD BMW without a mechanical LSD.

No worries. As I understand it, the ECU(s) should adapt, but in my case, I’m getting an occasional drive train malfunction warning that doesn’t persist, with no accompanying CEL or ill performance effects. Apparently, they are internal codes that can’t be seen with a standard OBD2 diagnostic tool. More of an annoyance than anything else. According to Dan at Diffsonline, he’s done dozens of the final drive changes to 3.08 and I’m the only he’s aware of having an issue. If the engine and/or ZF8 ECU doesn’t adapt, eventually I’ll pursue a programming solution now that the engine ECU is cracked (don’t know about the ZF8 ECU). I’ve read about this issue on older models and eventually it’s seems solutions were worked out.
