satellite radio problems

Anyone else having trouble with the signal on the satellite radio? It seems to cut out when going under tiny overpass and sometimes just randomly. So lazy to get it checked out. Hoping it will just pass

Satellite Radio and GPS are line-of-sight. So, you will likely experience outages while driving in areas of high-rise buildings, under bridges, in or near trees or forests, etc. And of course, while parked in your garage.

Guess it's unfortunate driving around in NYC with all the bridges tunnels and buildings. Thanks for the info!

I have sat radio in 3 of our cars including the 228i. They all drop for a few seconds when hitting certain overpasses at the right angle.

Found my 235 has the worst of any car I've ever owned though, even under some large trees I lose it. Cuts out in places my GLI or Legacy never did. Embarrassing when you're singing along and it cuts out and you hear how bad you sound!

Amen on the bad singing. I've had aftermarket units on my past 3 cars (all BMWs) and factory installed on the 228i. This is by far the best but they are all better in rural areas than cities.

So I know my car came with Sat Radio but we can't use it here in Germany. How does one go about using it in the U.S.? Will I have to get it activated at the dealer? I have to get the free maintenance program registered to me anyway.

Thanks. Now I'm going to go investigate.

To add my info on this: sat radio is indeed line of sight (though I had read that in major metropolitan areas some buildings have repeaters?). I have lost sat radio right under a small overpass too... oh well.

I'm more trying to figure out if HD radio or SAT radio delivers higher quality (higher bitrate)...

So occasionally I go back to good ol' USB
