I understand that US spec 228i gets the "Automatic" software for ZF8 transmission. M235i gets the "Sports Automatic" software.

You sure? I know some people with the 2014 228i don't have paddle shifters and that might mean the don't have the Sport Transmission. But the 2015 builds show them to have the same Sports Automatic transmission

No, I have a US Spec 228i and I have the Sports Auto with paddle shifters.

Replicating the same situation above, but in sport+ mode, it will not shift up and the car will feel like it fell on its face.
I just tried this and was in "comfort" on M mode and it didn't upshift and felt like if I pushed the brakes when it got to around 7krpm

so maybe some difference between the 228 and m235 then cause in M it won't upshift

As to another post about DTC switching off above certain speed: it doesn't mean it gets you into DSC off mode, but to the contrary: it turns all nannies back on (i.e. DSC ON, DTC OFF). This way you're protected above the certain speed threshold; remember that DTC on is mainly for allowing *some* wheel spin on loose surface for better acceleration/traction; when the car already have the momentum and you don't explicitly turn off the nannies by the long button press, you're reverted back to normal (i.e. protected) mode.
Interesting.... so then that would mean that sport+ over 31mph is actually same as sport if it indeed re-enables full DSC?

It's standard on 2015 models, but a lot of 2014 cars were incorrectly optioned down by selecting the Steptronic option that replaced the Sports Auto with the regular auto without paddles.

Do you know if that incorrect build applies to both the 2014 228i and M235i? That could help us isolate the issue that's causing these discrepancies in manual mode shifting. I have a 2015 model so I guess I got lucky no visits to the dealer for me haha, patience and time were on my side.

The key for this to work is to push the button beyond the end of the gas pedal. You know, the one that also activates launch control.
Yes, it does that also
Didn't realize you meant that kind of downshift.

Interesting.

It confused me when it first happened to me.
I was going full throttle in manual mode and when I upshift, the computer shifted also (not knowing it would shift for me), which made me upshift 2 gears.

Realizing it did this, I did the same in Sport+ thinking it would shift for me, but it never did lol.
