Staggered or all-season setup for ED?
We're picking up a M235 early April and will be driving through the Alps. Although I really like the staggered setup with sport tires in California, I'm worried about the all-season requirements when going over the passes. Basically if you're in an accident you're automatically at fault if you don't have all-season tires in winter conditions. But then again BMW's ED insurance should cover it...
So, aside from looks, any tangible benefits for going for a staggered sports order instead of 4x all season. Does the ride quality/handling change significantly? |

Supposedly the all season tire regulations are through April 15. Is it worth the risk? Try to delay your delivery date my friend

All seasons during the winter is insanity w/rwd(unless you live in Cali). Summers are a crime. Why use mediocre tires(for the season) when you have a better option? Dedicated winters are the only way to go if there's any possibility of snow. I once had all-seasons driving through mountain passes in an awd and nearly totaled it. Luckily I was far enough ahead of the semi when I did a 180 on the interstate when one tire hit a patch of ice. Never again.

Order the tires you want for US driving and rent snow tire/wheels while in Europe after the ED. Here's the website: http://www.edwintertires.com/

I say get the all seasons and enjoy your trip! You can always change tires in the states should you desire to do so. I bet you won't find much urgency to make the change. ;-)

Get the summer tires. The all-seasons limit the car to 130 mph and the run-flats ride like crap!
