It's Here!
Well, I picked my new M235i Convertible today in a huge snow storm. We got to the dealer at 11:00 am and it started snowing at 11:30. We drove home on the Michelin Supersports and it was pretty slippery. I am originally from upstate NY and have tons of winter driving experience and some pretty good snow skills which came in handy today. I left a lot of room between me and the car ahead and needed it when braking for a traffic light or stop sign. As soon as I applied the brakes, the ABS kicked in and we just SLOWLY came to a stop. It felt like we were on sheet ice. Luckily my son was following me and gave me lots of room as well, so I didn't have to worry about somebody on my tail. Modern traction control truly is amazing and made getting underway a lot easier, but really slow as well. Just a little throttle and the yellow stability control light was apoplectic. Tons of fun. Not.
The good news for tall drivers is that I fit in the cockpit really well, even with the wind blocker in place. I adjust my seat all the way down and all the way back, then I tilt the seatback to get comfortable. I still have about an inch before the seat back touches the wind blocker. PERFECT. I can actually stretch my left foot almost out straight under the pedals and I am 6'5". I am really happy as I bought this car to replace a very cramped 997.2 Cab. Here are a couple of quick pics and when I can I will get some shots of the interior for you. You can see I did already get the Mperf black kidney grills. I can't wait for spring!!!!! |

Thanks all, I am just so happy I fit in it. My initial impressions based on a very limited snowy drive home are very positive. The suspension on comfort setting handles railroad track crossings very nicely, firm but not harsh. The rev matching downshifts are spectacular, even in the snow. I love the size and feeling of a nimble SMALL car, this thing is so sweet. The steering is spot on, direct, and it was easy to catch the tail as I did some sliding a bit. I did test drive the 4 series convertible and it felt too big for us. Is it spring yet?

Congratulations! It must have been quite a sight seeing a rag top driving in a snow storm. Glad you made it home safely. Here's to many miles of smiles to come.

Awesome! You certainly have a one-of-a-kind, and may never see another exactly like it in the wild.
Driving home in that mess must have made you sick, but the main thing is that you made it with no harm done. Congrats! Here's hoping for a quick return to warm weather where you can drop that top.

She looks great, Todd, congrats! I was wondering if you had put off picking her up due to the storm. That's quite a stable of cars you have :-)

Congratulations! You're a braver man than I. I think I might have waited to pick her up until the roads were clear, but I understand you've been waiting a LONG time.

Congrats. It's been a long wait. But I feel your snow pain. We're getting dumped on here in Cleveland, and it's hard to believe it'll ever be top down weather again.
