So what do people use this "storage" bin for?

I'm doing an ED for my 228i in May. I wonder if this is something easier to get when I'm there?

Currently nothing is in it, nor has anything ever been in it.

Maybe someday I'll put change for parking meters but as of now it's closed and has only been opened twice, the first day I picked up the car to see what can fit it in and another time by accident.
