228i vs S3 Comparison

This is an interesting comparison between 228i and Audi S3.
228i did relatively well considering that S3 is more of a M235i competitor.

Yeah I saw this earlier...me thinks these guys are not the best drivers for drag racing. The times were all really slow. Looks like the S3 suffers from throttle lag a bit. I know the 228i in sport mode especially has no such issue.

I assumed this video would be shown here also, but here's my take on another forum.

Interesting. I test-drove the S3 and M235i back to back actually. The biggest problem I had with the S3 was that every time I would accelerate from a stand-still the car would just sit there and do nothing for the first bit of pedal travel and then it would suddenly lurch forward no matter how smoothly I tried to push the pedal. After that the car drove fine, but the lurching start at every stop sign and stoplight definitely wasn't pleasant.

After driving the S3, the M235i was completely sublime. It was absolutely a perfect joy to drive.

Interesting result! I had a GTI before getting my 228 MSport. I also test drove the A3 several times. The 228 felt significantly faster than both of them, and the VW/Audi had noticeable lag from a standing start. Felt more like the transmission than turbo lag. The S3 was not out yet, or I would have considered it as well. Have almost 10K miles on the 228 now and still love it. Right decision.

Yea I would guess that is a transmission issue. I had a z4 for a loaner the other day with the 35 engine and similiarly optioned to my 2. For some reason the lag in the transmission was unbearable. Considering it is the same exact engine I assumed the lag would be the same, but pretty sure we have different trans. It seemed like forever to make a 3-point turn or back out of a parking space. The 2 has really hit a sweet spot in responsiveness, a great auto trans, and styling. The A3 really does nothing for me and it seems much more a girl car than the 2. Just my opinion.

Its the fly be wire throttle lag....owned a toyota that did the same thing. Had a rental MB C class that also did it bad.
