I had a couple pinhead-sized chips on the nose of my Alpine White 2 series. I have both Dr. Colorchip and the Langka Blob Eliminator paint repair kits for the car. I tried both, and I have better luck with the Langka system.

Dr. Colorchip looks so easy on their videos. Just put a dab of paint next to the chip, and with the supplied latex glove you just smear the paint into the chip with the side of your thumb. But when I tried it, I could never get the chip filled in. It was always too light. Maybe it's easier with a darker color?

With the Langka system, you put a dab of manufacturer's touch up paint into the chip so it's like a blob. Sometime between 2 and 24 hours later, you rub the Langka solution on the blob to soften it up, and then rub lightly to remove the paint until it's level with the chip.

I got great results with the Langka system, and I'm going to use that from now on. I'm sure I could get the Dr. Colorchip system to work too if I took the time to practice, but I'm happy with Langka and will just stick with it.

Anyone else have any experience with either system?

Langka did smooth out for me like the directions suggested - but my defect was on my door jamb in a tight spot.

I was keyed so I have a scratch about 40 cm long. before going down the pah of respaying it. could something like this work?

Round chips are generally easier to fix than long scratches. For one thing there's a lot more area to repair with a scratch.

It depends on how good you want the repair to be. For me, I just had two chips the size of a pinhead - maybe 2 mm or 1/16th inch. The paint is white, but the black primer was showing in the chips, so you could see them while standing next to the car. After the repair, if you stoop down and look close up, you can see the repairs, but when you stand up next to the car, they're no longer visible.

If your scratch is down to the primer and it's really noticeable, the touch up could help it become less visible from a distance. But it's still going to be noticeable close up. Unless you are an artist, the only way to get a repair that looks like new is to re-spray it.

I had the same experience with Dr Color Chip that you did on my sliver gray E46 M3. It looked ok from 5 to 10 feet away but up close it was obvious the chip hadn't been filled in.

I've used Dr. Color chip on 3 different vehicles of mine- My old E46 with black sapphire metallic, my Denali which is a dark green and my AW M235.

All have had similar results.

The one thing I learned is to get it looking decent, I have had to go over the same chips 2 maybe even 3 times. I don't see how they smear it over a bunch of chips at once in the videos and have it come out looking much better.

I'll have to check out this Langka stuff
