Hmm I still haven't heard a m240 in person. Thought 340i sounded pretty good though.

I heard the m235i feels like it lacks in the upper band. My m240i doesn't feel like it lacks up top for the most part. Feels like it continues to pull hard. Still think it could use more power though.

I came from a 2016 M235i and now have a M240i.

The power difference is significant everywhere! Lots more power down low and does not die off at the upper end like the N55.

I have yet to see an M240 dyno yet. I would really like to see one overlayed an N55 dyno. They are different animals for sure.

Just saw this the other day. Tuned 135 against a stock 140. Also the 135 is xDrive so has more drivetrain loss. Still gives a good representation.

Yesterday i installed the MPE in the M240i. I noticed a change in the tone of the exhaust sound but it's not significant. Maybe a little richer but not loud as the M235i MPE.

And the most important thing is this engine DOES NOT pop like the M235i under any circunstances or driving modes.

So i feel dissapointed with the car....

BMW really fucked this car with the B58 engine. No pops and tots, no burping sound, no blow off valve sound, quiet exhaust....

PS: The performance feels the same.

My M240i pops on downshifts pretty often, even while not driving it hard. I even notice it in comfort mode every now and then. I have not been around M235i so i don't know how it compares. It is pretty quiet exhaust even in sport+ though for the kind of performance this car puts out. But i personally like the sleeper stealthiness of the M240i. Reminds me back in 2002 when i got my wrx and no one knew what it could do. I had alot of fun surprising people. I do miss the boxer growl that thing made though.

My M240i exhaust burbles and pops whenever I come off the gas between 2000 and 3500 RPM in Sport Mode.

I'm with jettison and schnell, mine pops in all modes, but most noticeably in sport and sport+ can't wait to get the catless installed. Should make the exhaust a little louder

It seems to me that I have read that the MPE takes 1,000 miles or so before it some into it's own. Maybe give it some time?

Sorry to hear you are disappointed with the car. Maybe a more aggressive exhaust is in order for you. Personally I think it sounds great the way it is.

Wondering if you have a dud or something. I came from a 2016 M235i and the M240i is considerable quicker, not just a little bit, but a lot!

Good luck!

Everyone's butt dyno is different and everyone'a own perception of the exhaust and engine will differ as well. Nature of the beast

Must be in the way the power is delivered because on paper, compared automatic to automatic, the M240 is about .2 seconds and 2mph quicker in the 1/4 mile than the M235. It's certainly more powerful, but not considerably quicker/faster.

My friend Mr Davgia send me this video and i'm really impressed.

Akrapovic exhaust system.

This is how our M240's should sound and this is how my M235i with MPE sounded....

Simply amazing....

Yes, you can definitely feel the extra torque down low. There is also lots more power throughout the power band.

I think part of the throttle response difference is due to the water to air intercooler. Much less piping to go though.

BMW rates the M240i .2 seconds quicker to 60 than the M235i.

I did a 4.4 in the winter in my M235i. After break in I will try the new one and see. I am hoping to be at 4.0.

I am fairly intimately familiar with both the M235i vs M240i. Both cars are great, but I definitely feel the B58 as being much stronger in reality, and prefer the sound over the N55. It sounds throatier without being a farty sounding. I loved the car and may look to replace my F80 with one at end of lease or beforehand.
