Necessary for what? Lots of brands dont have it and do not have any issues.

https://x-ph.com/m240-3/ of the 240i downpipes, there are 12 choices. excluding VRSF (since they include the mount now), only 2 other brands do not, ACTIVE AUTOWERKE and VM. Thats less than 20% overall. I read a lot of their posts on the 3 series forum..arguing against the need for the mounting tab...however...after having installed one over the weekend, to say that its unnecessary...when you have two sections of metal pipe separated by a flexible joint is a little overzealous. one side is held with a clamp to the turbo. The other with an exhaust clamp into the midpipe. with a flexible joint between the two...and no center mount, both logic and physics would argue that its a recipe for added movement. being that its catless and less heavy than the stock one, Im sure its LESS important, than the OEM setup, but if after all the debating, VRSF decided to include it on the design anyway..I'm willing to bet that their reasoning in doing so (and increasing their cost to manufacture) wasnt simply to "stop internet forum debates". |

Yes, Ive seen that response.
Hard to argue that its not a bit biased. And while I understand that VRSF is a volume operation first and foremost, meaning that they likely outsell most others...they are the only one that I continuously see posts about fitment issues with. Whether thats due to actual defect, or shipping damage, or installer error, or a perfect storm of all of the above, who knows. Considering that BMW vehicles are produced on a modern assembly line..like all other modern vehicles, its tough to believe the idea that the mounting tab is for "inexperienced installers"..as the BMW factory itself likely isnt inexperienced in the assembly of its own cars. I also saw Tiago's posts about revisions to the downpipe after multiple users had fitment issues. So thats a good thing that they take feedback in stride and improve their products. I just wouldn't want to be a test case and I spent the couple of hours tearing the car apart in my driveway to install the downpipe for the first time, only to find out that I got one that did not fit, I would not be happy. For that reason I bought the CTS Turbo Downpipe..which fit with no expansion tool at all. And had the mounts |

Just a heads up, If you get the O2 spacer with the 90degree part it won't screw on with the bracket there.. I installed my VRSF a few weeks ago and when I installed the spacer I was like frickkkk, took a hammer and bent the bracket down . Screwed in the spacer and bent it back.

Any chance of swapping my vrsf for the newer version with the mounting bracket? I find myself re-torquing the v-clamp once a week.
