M240i exhaust leak after DP

Hi all.

I have recently installed a down pipe and now have an exhaust leak coming from where the mid pipe and down pipe connect. The clamp will not stop the leak and I notice it’s welded on. Is my only option to go to an exhaust shop and have it unwelded and replaced?

What downpipe did you install? If I am not mistaken, some require a pipe expanding tool for that end...

Mine did as well after I put on my dinan mid pipe. When I put my catless pipe on I'm going to install some muffler sealant and tighten it more. Guess I'll see in a few weeks.

Thought I would chime in again myself.

I installed a DP on my m240i a couple weekends ago.

Mine wanted to leak there too. I was able to get that sucker in there without the pipe expander, but you have gotta hammer the piss out of it.

The DP itself will look like its all the way inside the mid-pipe, but it might not be. Took me a couple tries to get it done. I put some wood against the mount bracket on the mid-pipe and beat it senseless with a mallet. Loosen mount, loosen clamp, beat her in, tighten clamp, tighten bracket, start car, check for leak. Repeat as necessary. I consider myself in decent shape, but my lord was I sore the next day LOL. Blood, sweat, and tears baby!
