Is there a new non-M 2er undergoing testing?

I was driving around Beverly Hills two days ago and saw a car with full camo paint/design just like the ones on test cars. I pulled up next to it and it was a 2 series. It basically looked like a non M sport 228i with two tail pipes on the driver's side rear. I didn't get to take a pic because the driver gunned away and took a quick left turn. Unfortunately, I could not hear his car very well because a) the 2er did not make any audible noise with the windows up (not many cars do) and b) my car from the inside drowned the noise that 2er made.

So, is there a new 2 series coming out soon here in the US? Could it be the new engine like a 230i? Could it be a disel? This particular 2 series has some nice 5, twin spoke wheels.

yeah those are the 18" option on a no-line car.

i'd agree too, i think all the other 18" rim options look nicer than the m235 ones.

At least none that's noticeable. Possibly electric, possibly silent from auto start/stop, possibly hybrid...I have a feeling it's either a disel or the 230i

A 230d will be great but an electric version will be simply electrifying lol. Yes indeed.

There are no plans for a hard top 228i. The 2 will keep the ragtop and if you want the hard top you have to jump to the 4 series.

I saw the below car in the Glendale Mall parking lot at night. I have to apologize, as I had my hands full and could not get good light/angle for pics. I'm wondering if it's the same that you saw?

you'd think if they were really trying to hide it, they'd just not put camo on it since it looks exactly like a normal 228i.

Nope, the wheels look different unless they changed wheels. I only got to look at it for a few seconds at a red light then it gunned away from me.

BTW, what's that thing on the test car's windshield?

I thought this also, but perhaps drumming up attention isn't such a bad campaign effort either, especially since the 2 series is aimed more at enthusiasts. Here we are, discussing it

///Marketing at its finest?
But yeah, it would have been more "stealth" if their test cars dropped the camo.
